Simone Biles believes foster care can get scary

Despite all her medals and accolades, Biles believed that she was beyond all her achievements. As a child in foster care, the gymnast recalled, how her experience has shaped up over the years. Biles and her sister were adopted, when the gymnast was 6 years old. She fondly remembers her mother who adopted both children ‘unselfishly’. This also put a lot of things into perspective for the icon, who reflects on the system and its impact on children.

According to the icon, the foster care system was unfortunately challenging. She clarified that while the environment surrounding a child in foster care could be well-intentioned, they could still struggle. She added that the system was, “Still incredibly hard, confusing and scary.” While the star remains immensely grateful toward her family, she understands the importance of well-meaning adults in the life of a child in foster care.

Biles gave her family the credit for all that they’ve done for her. She strongly believes that her parents transformed her life for the better. She stresses the importance of having a consistent, caring adult in every child’s life, especially for the ones who have had a tough beginning. As a matter of fact, it takes a bunch of special people to be able to foster and help such children.
