After trials disappointment, is Skye Blakely the comeback story we need for the 2028 Olympics?

Resurrecting one’s strongest suit is something Skye Blakely is all too familiar with. After reaching the top echelons of the gymnastics strata, she faced a major hiccup this time around during the Trials. A major blow befell her and she will unfortunately not be part of the battalion of Five formidable women heading to Paris. Her hopes of competing in Paris were dashed when she withdrew from the Olympic trials, claiming a right Achilles condition. Though disappointed, Blakely’s supporters are nevertheless optimistic about her future, especially about the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.

Blakely was executing a floor exercise called a tumbling pass when she accidentally got hurt. Following this, Team USA suffered a serious setback with her withdrawal from the trials. However, Blakely finished second in the all-around at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, behind Simone Biles. She performed a challenging Cheng vault along with perfect routines in every event. She proved her flexibility by winning bronze medals in the uneven bars and balance beam as well. She took to feed her fans tidbits as to what really transpired with her.

Blakely wrote on X, “cheng from before trials. this ended up being one of my favorite skills, can’t wait to get back and some.” This tweet shows her upbeat attitude and resolve to come back even stronger. One of the hardest vaults in women’s gymnastics, the Cheng vault, has become Blakely’s signature move. On her first try, she achieved an amazing 15.000, and on her second try, she scored a strong 14.400 in the trials, an admirable feat in and of itself.
