The Olympic Games, held every four years, hold a unique place among sports enthusiasts who eagerly await unforgettable performances. However, injuries can be a significant barrier to success, and with the Paris Olympics just 40 days away, one Dutch gymnast’s dreams have been shattered by such a setback.

The Paris Olympics-trial-bound gymnast Eythora Thorsdottir has confirmed her bow out from the contest because of the injury faced during her training. Showing her current state of agony in an IG post, she explained, “I had a stupid accident during the take off of my dismount from beam. It resulted in breaking my foot in four places. Next week I’ll have surgery to get it fixed.” Now, her return date into the same mat is under a lot of discussion.

Despite her injury, Eythora remains hopeful and wishes everyone luck for the upcoming trials. Her fans, however, are shocked by the severity of her injury, with one highlighting the “4 fractures” in particular. Several big names in gymnastics, including Yul Moldauer and Rebeca Andrade, have expressed their concern in the comments. Eythora’s absence from the trials will certainly be felt, as fans will miss seeing her compete in the upcoming contests.

One of the things that fans will surely miss is her floor routine, which she takes great pride in perfecting. This has been evident in every turn of her performances at previous contests, such as the Rio Olympics, European Championships, and the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp. Her brilliant performance in Antwerp earned her a sixth-place finish in the all-around event.

Not just that, at the Tokyo Olympics, Eythora Thorsdottir performed her own vocal song during her floor exercise routine, lifting her into a rare league of athletes. It was a pure display of her passion, which often finds its place in her dancing and singing. For the Paris Olympics, she had something similar in mind. That led her to say, “I haven’t worked on any other projects since then but I’m ready for anything that comes my way.” But hardly, she could have thought about such a fate. Thankfully, her gymnastics colleagues are with her at this gloomy moment.
