Jordan Chiles at the VMAs 2024—Is she ready to fill Simone Biles' legendary shoes?

“I honestly feel more nervous than I do competing,” Simone Biles confessed, recalling her 2021 VMA pre-show jitters! Sure, she is a legend on the mat, scoring perfect 10s like it’s a walk in the park, but presenting? That had her sweating! And it wasn’t just her—this year, her BFF Jordan Chiles faced those same nerves!

On September 6, VMA (Video Music Awards) released the list of presenters, and Jordan earned a spot on the glamorous list! Alongside stars like Flavor Flav—the generous ‘Unc’ to present Chiles, her custom-made bronze medal after the gymnast slipped to the fifth position in the women’s floor exercise final at the Paris Olympics—Jordan is ready for her big moment. USA Gymnastics shared the exciting news on X, hyping her VMA debut set to air on September 11. With her gymnastic return to UCLA on the cards, the silvery invitation from MTV VMAs can establish Jordan in her ‘That girl’ throne firmly. Notably, her BFF Simone had her chance on the same occasion back in 2021, just after the Tokyo Olympics.

In Tokyo, Biles had a mixed bag of achievements. She had her performances awarded silver in the women’s artistic gymnastics team all-around final and bronze in the women’s balance beam final. But she had to withdraw from the next finals after facing ‘twisties’, the dreaded mental situation that could have dropped a question mark on her gymnastics career.

Later, she opened up on the issue, which helped in bringing awareness to the topic. So Simone’s appearance at the VMAs was a message intensifying the wholesome awareness. In the same avenue, Jordan Chiles’s chance to be a presenter on the stage could be a message for the Black community, especially after what she achieved in Paris. And after the Paris Olympics, both the gymnasts received a similar option once to nourish the excitement of their fans.

Jordan Chiles has another chance to live on a similar occasion to Simone Biles

In the past, Jordan Chiles has repeatedly spoken about her taste in music that revolves around the songs performed by Black artists- Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé are the prominent ones. Eventually, Simone Biles’s choice of music goes in the same direction. Whereas Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé remain the common names; Biles also falls for Rihanna’s voice. So attending the MTV VMAs could be the full circle moment for both gymnasts, as their preferred music artists have performed on that same stage several times. But except for that music pomp, there’s another show where Simone and Jordan have grown their fandom and received invitations to accompany the events.

In the NFL world, Simone Biles has been a known face. Her husband, Jonathan Owens, has established his name in the sport among the victor ludorum. But before any formal introduction with JO, Biles had already been cultivating her love for another sport, MLB. The reason is the club in her hometown—the Houston Astros. To show her unwavering support for the club, Simone appeared on the stand several times. Among those appearances, two times, she pitched the ball, flaunting the Astros’ jersey. This year as well, she had the same opportunity as the MLB club invited her for a special reason.

Last week, on August 30, the Astros wanted to honor the Houston area Olympians. Biles came first in that count. Meanwhile, she celebrated the moment by pitching the ball at Minute Maid Park. In the past, she did it two times, in 2016 and 2019. However, today Jordan Chiles had a similar opportunity as she was given the chance to pitch the ball at the Meta-Reds game. She did it in her style by firing the ball on the plate. In the middle of this, she received a few tips from Pete Alonso, New York Mets’ star, regarding the throws and a signed glove as an honor from the club. These events show Jordan’s steady movement, being the perfect mate of Simone Biles.
