On the mats of NCAA Gymnastics, Leanne Wong, shining in orange and blue, has etched her prominence time and again. Last week the 20-year-old added a ‘Grand Slam’ honor to her many feathers, becoming only the 15th gymnast to earn the title. The recognition paired with her 15 all-American titles and previous international triumphs makes the gymnast just the prospect on the road to the Paris Olympics 2024.

Leanne Wong has been no stranger to international stages. Making the national team in 2017, the 20-year-old has gone on to represent the USA in the 2019 Pan Am Games and 2022, and 2023 Worlds, all for gold. With the illustrious path already framing her name, the youngster is now eyeing the next big thing: the Paris Olympics 2024.

Leanne Wong recently appeared on the Gator Tales to talk with Sean Kelley about her Grand Slam, the road to the Paris Olympics, and all things gymnastics. Maneuvering through the discussion on her stance on handling the NCAA and the elite stages, Wong talked about her new tools for Paris. Further hinting how involvement both ways has helped her perform only better. “At the beginning of the season, I had some more new skills put in there. Especially on the beam. But then throughout the season, I think I have just put those in the practice routine,” the gymnast reveals.

Leanne Wong’s further talks entail how incorporating new skills during training has helped better her collegiate routines on Fridays. “Just using that experience to just learn how to compete and gain confidence and be consistent,” she adds.

As aforementioned, Leanne Wong has plenty of experience in the international stages. However, the Olympics are still on the ambition list for the 20-year-old who was an alternate at Tokyo 2020. Hence, a spot on the Paris Olympics roster would still mean a dream come true for Wong.

En route to a glistening dream

Prioritizing academics as a pre-med, Leanne Wong’s excellence in gymnastics hasn’t been lost on many. “She’s graceful, she’s elegant and her power, she just continues to get stronger and more powerful, which has been really fun to see. She’s really embraced it,” Coach Rowland had remarked over the 20-year-old’s spectacle at the US Championships. Strongly backed by Rowland, Wong has climbed the ladder of prominence steadily to eye the Paris Olympics quite hopefully.

Having previously gone through the entire process of reaching the Olympic roster, Leanne Wong believes she is more prepared than her previous self in the situation. Add that to her continued triumph on NCAA mats and elite, Wong might just find herself living the dream.
