Simone Biles won gold at Rio, Tokyo, and now aiming for the same in Paris. Making a spectacular comeback after her battle with ‘twisties’, Simone Biles looks like a teen all over again. If her 2023 World Championship triumph was not enough, Biles won her 2024 season debut at the Core Hydration Classics. Her 59.500 was sufficient to establish her dominance as Biles was two full points clear of the second-placed Shilese Jones. Keeping up the good work, Biles came to the Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships with renewed vigor.
Biles took the lead on Day 1 by breaching the 60 points’ mark, scoring 60.45. While Biles is looking set for a Paris triumph, the lingering question of what next has started doing the rounds. Will this be the last we see of Simone Biles? Well, her recently appointed choreographer, Gregory Milan, was asked this question on an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. And his answer was quite interesting.

Ravaged by swarms of criticisms, Simone Biles wants the Olympics gold badly. Thus, apart from her training, Biles is also looking to explore areas that were unknown to her till now. One such example is the inclusion of her French choreographer, Gregory Milan. Overcoming the French-English language barrier and trying to fathom a new style of dance, Biles has truly left Milan mesmerized. So when he sat down with Essentially Sports for an exclusive interview and was asked about Biles’ retirement, all Milan could say was positive things.

Gregory Milan started by saying that he would love Biles to continue till the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. On top of that, he also hoped that Biles would continue working with him to allow him to orchestrate her choreography for a second time. Milan then went on to detail his experience and almost turned into a fanboy. He said, “But if it were up to me, I find her so much stronger in her head now that I say she should continue. But then, I am not in Simone’s head. So, I don’t know what she will want to do.”
He then went on to say that after a rigorous Paris Olympics, a break is much needed for Biles. After coming back refreshed, she can then analyze her present situation and take a call on whether to continue. Milan signed off by saying that he would still want Biles to consider a 2028 appearance. Meanwhile, speaking on the topic of retirement, Biles’ coach, Cecile Landi, had some insights to share.

Cecile Landi will embark on a new journey with the GymDogs, once her Paris duties are over. Appearing on a podcast recently, Landi spoke about the retirement of elite gymnasts. She said, “The 25 are like, okay, at least I get Laurent for one more year.” This statement held great significance as Landi might have been hinting at Simone Biles, who is currently 27.
On the flip side, Biles herself has not confirmed her retirement. In fact, coming back from her hiatus, Biles dismissed the rumors by saying, “I haven’t retired though.” This was after Biles had earlier stated that the Tokyo Olympics might be the last we see of her. And truly, Biles’ shenanigans do not hint at her form dipping a bit. At the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Biles executed the Yurchenko double pike to perfection. She became the first woman to do it and hence got it named as ‘The Biles II’. Thus, with speculations and dreams brewing, the Paris Olympics will surely be a ride to remember for both Simone Biles and her fans.
