Can Simone Biles defy the odds and make a historic comeback at the LA 2028 Olympics?

I think with everything I’ve been through, I want to push the limits, I want to see how far I can go,” Simone Biles shared with Will Graves of The Associated Press just a few days ago. Currently, her sights are set on the Paris Olympics. But what lies beyond? Will she hang up her leotard after Paris, or vault into LA28? However, Biles has remained tight-lipped about her plans for gymnastics post-Paris. After all, she seems to be winging it. Meanwhile, Oksana Chusovitina, an ex Olympian and now 49 years old, continues to defy the odds in her gymnastics career.

She believes, “As long as I am able to do this, as long as I enjoy it, I will keep going.” She wants Simone Biles to adopt the same mindset and never give up. In a recent exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, she suggested that Biles should consider a return for the next Olympics!

Recently, the host of EssentiallySports, Shreya Verma, sat down with Oksana Chusovitina for an insightful interview. When Verma asked about Simone Biles possibly retiring after the Paris Olympics. As she puts it, “There has been speculation about Simone Biles retiring after the Paris Olympics due to age. Considering your years of experience with longevity, would you suggest Biles join LA 2028 as well?

There was talk during the Tokyo Olympics that Biles might retire from international gymnastics after that event. However, her sudden decision to withdraw from the competition sparked more discussion about what she might do next. Despite this uncertainty, she made a strong comeback.

To this, Chusovitina, who withdrew from the Paris Olympics due to injury, responded with her determination, stating, “Simone Biles is a very talented gymnast; perhaps nothing is impossible for her, including performing at the Games in Los Angeles. Everything depends only on her. For my part, I wish her to perform brightly in Paris and delight fans of her talent as much as possible with her bright performances.” Well, Simone Biles is undeniably one of the oldest and most accomplished athletes in U.S. gymnastics history who earned a spot on the team at age 27. With an impressive 37 medals to her name no less, there’s no sign of stopping for her.

Although she hasn’t officially retired, she mentioned last September, after overcoming twisties that led to a two-year break, “I haven’t retired though.” According to Olympics.com, Biles had hinted that the Tokyo Games could be her last appearance. However, after the Games didn’t go as planned, she wasn’t ready to retire just yet.

Have an interesting take?

While being relatively hush hush about her retirement plans, she is still trudging along, without caring about what naysayers think. Her message was rather cryptic, and it was as follows –“They want to see the downfall, which is really unfortunate because sports hasn’t seen athletes like we’ve seen before,”.

Being just 27, she is just teeing off and Paris is all that matters to the queen regnant of gymnastics at the moment.”So you really have to give them their flowers in the sport because once they’re gone, you’re going to miss them” – she emphasized, hinting at the fact that the audiences need to get their act together and acknowledge an athlete’s contributions while they are still thriving in their heyday. Still, speculation lies about what lies beyond for the Pocket Rocket.

But in May, Biles herself addressed the questions about her LA 28 participation. “I would never say never and I think that would be amazing to (do this) after every Olympic cycle. I think that would be a beautiful thing. But right now I can’t tell you yes or no. Like no definitive answers because I don’t know what life will look like in the next few years to come,” she said while speaking with Texas-based El Paso Inc. However, another retired legend gymnast wishes the same for Simone Biles.

Insights on Simone Biles’ potential participation in LA 2028 by Kathy Johnson and Gregory Milan

In early June, Kathy Johnson discussed Simone Biles’ potential participation in the Los Angeles 2028 Games in an interview with EssentiallySports. When asked about Biles returning to competition, Johnson emphasized Simone’s comeback and decade-long dominance, stating, “We are witnessing unprecedented times in women’s gymnastics with Simone’s return to competition better than ever and her 10-year dominance!” Johnson noted that with age comes experience, highlighting how maturity, determination, and grace become strengths as gymnasts return stronger. She remained optimistic about Biles’ prospects for LA 28, considering she would be 31 by then. Even Biles’ choreographer also discussed her potential involvement in the LA Olympics.

Earlier this year, Gregory Milan, Simone Biles’ choreographer, shared intriguing insights in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports. When asked about Biles’ potential retirement, Milan stated, “But if it were up to me, I find her so much stronger in her head now that I say she should continue.”

Ultimately, the ball is in Biles’ court as she decides her next move in gymnastics. However, if she chooses to join LA 28, it would be a historic game-changer. Gabby Douglas has also thrown her hat into the ring, and expressed her desire to perform there at the age of 32, adding another layer to the story.
