Could IShowSpeed's athleticism make him a serious contender in sports, or is it just for fun?

Could a streamer really beat the fastest man in the world? Probably not. But he can come pretty close! This is what happened when IShowSpeed raced Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles in a 50-meter dash. While Noah did eventually end up pulling through, there was a point at the race where Speed seemed to be going toe to toe with him. For a person who has never really trained in the sport, not losing embarrassingly to the champion is enough cause to celebrate.

Since then, Speed has called out numerous track athletes for trying to avoid racing him. He feels that many are scared after seeing his potential against Noah Lyles. “I’m not about to say no names, but all these people who are professionals… whatever they’re professionals at… they are scared to race me. I’m calling everybody and anybody out,” he remarked on his livestream. He even felt that Noah didn’t give him a rematch because he was scared Speed would get the better of him the second time around. But, while Noah has offered to train him in track, it seems like IShowSpeed has changed his focus.

Now, it seems that the streamer has turned his attention to another sport. After track and field, it was now his turn for gymnastics. The YouTuber was seen training with Olympic bronze medalist Fred Richard on his jumping skills. In an Instagram story uploaded by Fred, the gymnast was seen guiding Speed as he did somersaults on a trampoline. The YouTuber was flipping in the air knees either tucked or in pike position and steadily landed on his feet similar to a pro gymnast, highlighting his extremely high athleticism.

But wait—there’s more! Another wild moment from Speed’s livestream took off when he and Fred attempted a different challenge. In the clip, Fred hops up a solid six feet to reach a mat, then effortlessly backflips his way back down, making it look like a casual day at the gym. Not to be outdone, Speed attempted his own leap to the six-foot mark. Spoiler alert: he made the jump but skipped the backflip on the way down. Still, it was an impressive feat, especially since most viewers doubted he’d even make the jump!

Seems like that training time with Fred is paying off. But a lot of other events transpired in the gym while Speed was there. While trying to perform a gymnastics routine, the influencer broke one of the trampolines much to his surprise as he exclaimed in frustration. The streamer would also go on to learn how to do a double backflip within just 80 minutes of training.

When he finally succeeded, Fred Richard applauded him while IShowSpeed exclaimed, “Let’s go!” in delight. But just as he felt at the top of the world, he almost hit rock bottom just minutes after that. After attempting to do another double backflip, he fell first on his head almost breaking his neck. Thankfully, the surface was too light to affect him that much. Otherwise, there would have been a very dark ending to an otherwise productive session. This training was possibly organized after Fred appreciated Speed for a viral stream.

IShowSpeed’s viral backflip challenge prompted Fred Richard to invite him to training

IShowSpeed new stunts probably took root back in early October, during his ambitious attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most backflips in a day. The current record stands at over 1000, and Speed came close—completing 660 flips before he had to tap out due to, well, what he described as feeling “paralyzed.”

He had made a very sincere bid to break a tough record and was genuinely devastated when he couldn’t manage to finish it. The effort, though, caught the eye of Olympic bronze medalist Fred Richard, who shared his admiration on TikTok: “I got to say, Speed, I’m impressed. 660 backflips! I would train you speed.” He even hinted there’s some technical stuff Speed could optimize to nail the record.

Fred is so on board with this, he might even give the record a shot himself if Speed’s video goes viral. “Part of me is like, damn, do I break the record? Definitely can, definitely done hundreds in practice but also, is it worth the damage?” the Olympian continued. With Olympic-level guidance, who knows what Speed might accomplish on his next attempt? Looks like this partnership is just getting started, as seen in this Instagram update, and fans are hyped to see what’s next. Hopefully, this camaraderie could lead to great things for both of them!
