American gymnastics prodigy,?Suni Lee is the defending all-around Olympic gold medalist. In her maiden Olympics, she bagged all three metals in her account. And now, as the Paris Olympics are closing by, Lee had earlier announced that despite being a sophomore, this will be her last season in college competitions. However, Lee soon reached her 11th hour at the Tigers’ final home meet of the season due to an unrelated health issue.

As Sunisa Lee announced the news on Twitter, her tweet set off waves of disappointment. Not only this, but Lee’s coach too had a few words to share. Even though both Lee and her coach have taken to a least-said-sooner-mended approach, the coach’s statements that have come to light has put some context into the recent developments.

An upsetting end to a successful run at NCAA

Sunisa Lee had to miss the second consecutive meet on Friday due to a “non-gymnastic health issue” she suffered. Moreover, it was also her last chance to appear in Neville Arena, which makes it more disheartening for her. However, despite her absence, the Tigers pulled up the match and won by 197.6 – 197.025. Before the final meet, Lee revealed her feelings through her tweet. She tweeted,??

As reported by Montgomery Advertiser, Lee’s coach Jeff Graba also spoke about her current situation. Graba revealed that they are taking it one day at a time without rushing through the process. Moreover, after the win as the Tigers are looking ahead to the next competitions, such as SEC Championships and NCAA regionals, Lee would like to get back soon. However, missing her last match at Neville arena was emotional for her.?

As coach Graba talked after the Friday meet, he said,?“(Suni has) been great through everything. She’s a competitor, she wants to be out there. She knew this was her last time in Neville Arena to compete and then go make a run for the Olympics. I think it’s really emotional when you don’t get to go out on your terms. To not be able to do at least an event tonight is probably frustrating, and I get it, but we’ve still got things left to do.”

Moreover, Graba applauded Lee’s team spirit as Lee went to support the other girls in the arena. He said,?“She’s a team player. I think you saw that tonight. It’s obviously not fun for her to be here right now, and she’s not going to miss it for the world. So, she’s going to be there for her girls.”

Lee must be feeling disheartened to have missed performing in the electrifying atmosphere of Neville Arena.
