Since the end of June, the world of gymnastics has been bustling with the news of the comeback of a legendary gymnast. Simone Biles announced to the world that she would be stepping back into professional gymnastics. Her re-appearance comes after two years of hiatus from the sport.
However, the comeback of the icon is shadowed by a piece of upsetting news. Her husband, Jonathan Owens, is not going to be there to support her when she makes her first move back into competitive gymnastics. Simone Biles will be setting the stage on fire at the U.S. Classic 2023 soon. Sadly, her beau will not be there to cheer her up. Yet, he is still there in spirit.

At least, that seems to be her goal when it comes to combatting her husband’s absence on the special day. Though the NFL player might not be there to support and cheer his wife, Simone Biles has found a way to include him in her routines. In her recent practices for the U.S. Classic, the 4-time Olympics gold medalist was seen wearing a necklace with her soulmate’s name on it. In pictures revealed by the Twitter handle of Team USA, the gymnast was seen wearing the name “OWENS” around her neck.

In a recent question-answer session that Simone Biles conducted on her Instagram stories, she revealed how, due to his career commitments, Owens will not be able to fulfill his role as her personal cheerleader. A fact that she was, rightly, unhappy about. It all began when the NFL safety signed a deal worth $1.01 million with the Green Bay Packers, taking a step further in his career. Although, with the new opportunity came some restrictions. With the new NFL season upcoming, Biles’ husband will have to stay in Wisconsin with his team.
As Simone Biles revealed, he could not leave the team’s home, or else he would either be cut or fined. Nonetheless, it seems like the hearts of both athletes are still together. Even though they are separated by distance. The same is evident by how close Biles is keeping Owens with the necklace around her neck. While the absence of her biggest supporter might act as a setback, the 26-year-old gymnast is taking it all in stride. Her performance at the official practice for the U.S. Classic is proof of the same, according to a report by Olympics.com.
Biles impresses the gymnastics world before her comeback
This being her first competition since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, there is no doubt that expectations are high from the star. Her stint in Tokyo did not end well, with her taking a break to deal with mental health blockers. However, when Simone Biles finally made it to the mats at the official practice for the U.S. Classic, she let everyone know she means business. The practice took place at the Hoffman Estates, Illinois, a northwestern suburb of Chicago, and Simone Biles shone brightly.

Right off the bat, she obliterated the never bars after performing tricks such as a Weiler half, Maloney, giant full pirouette, piked Tkatchev to Pak salto sequence. To end her already amazing routine, she chose to go with a Maloney-half and toe-on full pirouette to full-twisting double back dismount. With moves like that, she is sure to conquer the floor at the U.S. Classic.
