At the Tokyo Olympics, a moment captured hearts and exemplified the power of friendship. It was the bond between two remarkable teammates and gymnastics legends. As Simone Biles dropped out from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics due to “Twisties,” her favorite Olympic teammate stepped up to fill her shoes. This gymnast executed her routines flawlessly in the vault final, landing both a Cheng and an Amanar with a precision that can only be described as remarkable. Two years later, the gymnast finally shared her teammate’s heartfelt message.
This exceptional performance saw MyKayla Skinner secure a silver medal for the USA. Now, though, she is on an entirely different journey. Skinner had announced months ago that she and her husband are expecting their first child in September 2023. Days before welcoming her baby into the world, the 26-year-old revealed a line from Simone Biles that may have spurred her on to the silver.

MyKayla Skinner made an appearance on ‘MOMCAST with Emma Jade’ and spoke about how she had packed to fly back home, but received the call to stay back just in the nick of time. The gymnast labeled the call as “perfect timing” as she warmly shared Simone Biles’ message from the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
“Um, it was crazy. Simone texted me that night after team finals, and was like, ‘MyKayla, there’s no one else I’d rather go in for Vault for me than you, and you deserve every moment of this.'”
Skinner had lost hope of competing after preliminaries, but Biles, in a last-minute twist, needed a replacement, and that’s how Skinner’s silver moment became owed to Biles. She further continued to say what Biles had felt and stated, “Having the twisties on vault, she was kind of like I’m not gonna mess with Vault, I’m not gonna even train or try it.”?
Skinner was really grateful for this opportunity, as she still had belief in herself that there was something left to do. This message comes weeks before Skinner will welcome new life into the world along with her husband, Jonas Harmer.
Both Biles and Skinner share a good connection both on and off the field, and it showed when Skinner was all ready to replace her at the Olympic games. Upon hearing the couple’s latest news, Biles couldn’t keep calm and sent out her wishes without delay, showcasing the friendship and bond these two gymnasts hold.
