Lending a helping hand is one of the things that makes us truly humans. Sometimes, a moral support goes the furthest in lifting someone’s spirits, and for Jordan Chiles, this couldn’t be more true. Last month, Chiles faced an emotional and career-altering setback when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS) stripped her of her Olympic bronze medal due to alleged misconduct. However, the fight isn’t over, and Chiles has her fellow Americans rallying behind her cause with everything they have.

Chiles’ Olympic fiasco has drawn much attention from the global community. However, the issue has transcended beyond gymnastics connoisseurs. Among supporters of Chiles’ cause is celebrity rapper Flavor Flav, whose commitment to boosting women’s sports has earned him a lot of praise. Only last month did the rapper reveal his special gift for the Olympian, and now, he’s here to clear the air about what prompted him to take action amidst the ongoing drama.

Flav recently appeared for an interview in The Jennifer Hudson Show, snippets of which were shared via an Instagram post on September 26. During the interview, the host brought up the moment when Flavor handed Chiles her diamond-studded bronze clock necklace at the MTV VMAs. Hudson’s guest didn’t beat around the bush about his action, either. “Well the reason why, first of all, the reason is Jordan Chiles, she did a fantastic job this year and going out there. And she rightfully deserved that medal. She went out there, she worked hard for that medal,” said Flav sternly.

“To go out there and to achieve something and have it ripped away from you, you know what I’m saying, I know it’s a real devastating feeling…we know the clock ain’t going to take the place of a gold medal, but it’s just, my heart, my gesture,” noted Flavor why he fell the urge to step up and try to alleviate Chiles’ pain. But the memento wasn’t the only thing that Flav had in store for Simone Biles’ BFF.

“…also for her prize money that she was supposed to get, I made sure that she got that too,” revealed Flav to the host’s astonishment as the crowd loudly applauded to hail him for his generosity. However, the rapper isn’t the only one who is willing to go the mile to give Chiles some relief.

More supporters stands fast

The USA Gymnastics stacked up on its arguments and pleaded with the IOC to reconsider the situation as they claimed that Chiles’ inquiry was raised well within the 1-minute rule of the FIG. Furthermore, the country’s apex body also asserted that the mistake made by the judges caused the dilemma between Jordan and Romania’s Ana Barbosu in the first place. Tennis legend John McEnroe’s brother, Patrick McEnroe, also slammed the IOC for messing up and called the entire situation “a travesty.” US Democrat Representative Stephen Cohen also sent a personal mail to the CAS to highlight the finer details of the matter and urge the Court to reopen the case.

The iconic gymnastics star Nadia Comaneci also noted that such a debacle could seriously harm the athletes’ mental health and suggested that the bronze medal be divided among all the gymnasts in question. Only last week, Jordan decided to lead the charge by herself against the CAS, and the USAG ensured all forms of support would be extended to her. While it remains to be seen if their collective efforts make a difference and help Chiles retain her Parisian hardware, let’s just take a moment to appreciate what a good samaritan Flavor Flav is!
