MyKayla Skinner does not seem to see the storm bypassing past her just yet. In a recently viral YouTube video, the Olympian stunned the gymnastics world with her comments. Skinner lashed out at the US gymnastics team members and claimed that they lacked depth. She also mentioned that barring Simone Biles, none of the gymnasts were hard-working enough and lacked proper ethics. The Tokyo silver medalist then went on to point out that due to SafeSport norms, the coaching ceased to be aggressive. 

This was a shocking revelation considering the widespread discontent regarding the ‘abusive’ training tactics that the dreaded Karolyi Ranch was well known for. Naturally, Skinner was subjected to a huge backlash and was criticized by Simone Biles and Gina Chiles. Well, just days after the controversy seems to have pacified a bit, the latest updates from MyKayla Skinner show that her bad times are just not over yet. Skinner recently faced an unusual health scare that left her fans concerned. 

Unknown skin issue leaves MyKayla Skinner red-faced

MyKayla Skinner has been facing an unusual skin condition recently. As per the images she shared on her Instagram story, several patches of red can be seen all over her face. Posting a closeup picture of her face, MyKayla Skinner wrote, “This was my skin last night if your are going through this right now just know you are not alone!”

She also followed up on her health, mentioning paying a visit to a dermatologist. Skinner detailed that she had to currently rely on topical creams to get rid of the redness on her face. As she is breastfeeding at the moment, Skinner was restricted from using any medications. For the uninitiated, MyKayla Skinner was pregnant in 2023. The Olympian, along with her husband, Jonas Harmer, welcomed their first child in September 2023. 

Reflecting on her pregnancy journey back in 2023, Skinner briefed her about the struggles that she had to undergo. The Olympian mentioned losing a significant bit of her weight. Skinner also pointed out about ‘throwing up’ ever since she was past the six-week period. Nonetheless, everything worked smoothly for the couple in the end, with their beloved ‘Miss Lottie’ bringing immense joy to their family. Well, speaking of joy, unfortunately, MyKayla Skinner has had tough luck in that department recently. Even after apologizing for her viral YouTube video statements, the angry reactions are not subsiding anytime soon.

Skinner was highly vocal about the abusive tactics used by coaches previously. Appearing in her ‘Agree to Disagree’ podcast in 2023, Skinner stated, “Marta era was way worse.” This was a reference to the isolated Karolyi Ranch run by Marta and Bela Karolyi. They were heavily criticized for tending to abusive training methods after being called out by several gymnasts. Thus, claims of SafeSport norms hindering an aggressive style of coaching coming from Skinner were a shocker for everyone. 

Following her video blow-up, MyKayla Skinner immediately deleted the same. She then resorted to damage control mode and issued a public apology. Taking to her X account, Skinner posted on July 6, “It was not my intention to offend or disrespect any of the athletes or to take away from their hard work.” Skinner then went on to congratulate Team USA Gymnastics for their endeavors in Paris. The Olympian wrote, “Your hard work and dedication has paid off and I congratulate each and every one of you.” Sadly, despite her best efforts to mend things, the discontent towards her does not seem to dissipate. Thus, while going through a tough time, it will be hard work for MyKayla Skinner to try to restore parity after the enormous blunder she committed recently.
