Will the male gymnasts in Simone Biles' tour steal the spotlight or remain in her shadow?

“It’s kind of a celebration party in the USA. Very high-energy performance. Very good music and excitement,” Simone Biles told KHOU 11 on August 24. The eleven-time Olympic gold medalist has all the reason to be excited, as this time the men from Team USA Gymnastics will also join Gold Over America. While Biles headlined the event’s first edition in 2021, only the women participated.

However, that will change on September 16 at the Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, where the second edition kicks off. Gold Over America 2024 promises to be far grander than its debut edition, with the inclusion of the Paris 2024 men’s all-around team bronze medalists. Yet the Olympic medalists who broke a 16-year-old medal drought aren’t the only ones who’ll join Biles & Co.

This time, nearly every member of the Paris Olympics men’s gymnastics team will join the tour set to visit 32 cities across the nation. Two-time Olympian Brody Malone will once again take center stage. Malone stared at an uncertain future in September last year, as he was bedridden. A slip on the horizontal bar followed by a botched landing nearly obliterated his left fibula and knee.

Yet the former world champion showed incredible resilience, returned for the Olympics, and helped his team win bronze. Now Malone will join Simone Biles to celebrate that achievement. Michigan Men’s Gymnastics Team, and now Olympic medalist Paul Juda will join Malone on stage. Even eleven-time NCAA champion Yul Moldauer and teammate Frederick Richard will also be part of the lineup.

Unfortunately, their 2024 Summer Games teammates Asher Hong and Stephen Nedoroscik won’t be part of any of the 38 scheduled shows. Fans found it especially disappointing, as Nedoroscik was initially part of the lineup. Moldauer, Richard, and Hong contributed to Team USA’s team bronze and became an overnight star after earning his team’s only individual medal.

Specializing in the pommel horse apparatus, Nedoroscik stepped up when he was most needed. His bronze medal-winning effort earned the mild-mannered superstar the nickname ‘Clark Kent of the Pommel Horse’. However, a select few who didn’t make it to Paris will also join the extravaganza headlined by Simone Biles.

Two of the men’s team’s non-traveling alternates will also be there to dazzle the crowd. 2022 World Championships and 2024 Paris Olympic alternate Shane Wiskus will join his bronze medal-winning teammates on stage. Veteran gymnast Donnell Whittenburg, who missed direct qualification by the slightest of margins, will finally get to perform alongside his team.

Whittenburg also acted as a non-traveling alternate for Team USA’s Paris 2024 contingent. Finally, ten-time NCAA All-American and gymnastics influencer Ian Gunther will join Simone Biles and the men’s lineup for Gold Over America. Besides these seven gymnasts, someone outside of Team USA will also participate in the nationwide tour.

Who else will join Simone Biles in the 2024 edition of the tour?

During her interview, the seven-time Olympic gold medalist also spoke about surprise guests who’ll join the tour. Casimir Schmidt is among these guests who are officially joining the 2024 Gold Over America Tour. Schmidt was part of the Dutch men’s gymnastics team at Paris 2024. However, the Athleta-sponsored tour hasn’t announced the name of any other guest male gymnastics.

Besides the men’s team gold medalists, Jade Carey, Hezly Rivera, and Jordan Chiles will perform alongside Simone Biles. Sunisa Lee is the only gymnast missing from the women’s Paris 2024 team lineup. However, several other female gymnasts, including Joscelyn Roberson, Katelyn Ohashi, Trinity Thomas, Ellie Black, and more, are officially part of the lineup.
