Now, Chiles is making headlines for a different reason altogether—she was invited to throw the first pitch at the New York Mets game against the Cleveland Guardians. While the throw didn’t receive much praise, something else caught the attention of the fans. Jordan Chiles debuted a new pair of Nike Air Max Muse shoes, an upcoming release not yet available on the market. However, people on the internet noticed something else while checking out the shoes.

Apparently, the shoe is very similar to WNBA star Angel Reese’s Reebok Engine A sneakers. It was debuted by the Chicago Sky star during their match against the Indiana Fever on August 30th. The shoe marks the company’s return to basketball footwear after a nine-year hiatus following the release of the ZPumpRise. Reese, who signed a deal with Reebok in October last year, had high ambitions with the company. She said at the time, “Reebok has stood on business about me since day one.”

She continued, “Everything that I’ve wanted, all the creative control, I’ve gotten. [Reebok president of basketball] Shaq [O’Neal] told me I was going to be the face of Reebok, and I continue to be that. Being able to debut the new basketball shoe today, of course, I’m excited for it. In my future, I will definitely have a signature shoe — for sure.”

Fans were surprised to see Jordan Chiles wearing a shoe style very similar to the Nike Air Max Muse, noting the close resemblance between the two. They took to Instagram to comment on this and speculated that the company might have copied Reebok’s design.

One fan said, “Look similar to Reebok engine sneakers worn by Angel Reese.” A glance at them does show a similarity between Jordan Chiles and Angel Reese’s sneakers. Both have a similar color and almost the same design. A user replied to this comment saying, “Exactly!! Good call on these! I got confused when I saw the post and Nike on them.” This is never good as the public can get confused between the two products. The fact that the companies are rivals also doesn’t make it better. “Copying the queen Angel Reese already,” said one fan. This one blatantly accused Nike of copying Reebok which could have huge repercussions if true. As it is Reebok’s comeback in basketball, they might not take this matter very lightly.

Other comments straight up criticized the design of the shoe worn by Jordan Chiles. One fan talked about how the shoes looked kind of outdated and would have gotten higher sales if they were released twenty years ago. They said, “These would be fire in the mid to late 90s maybe early 2000.” Then, another user talked about how the material didn’t look up to the mark and gave a feeling of being cheaper. “Something about it looks so cheap,” said the user.
