Is the bright gymnastics arena a distraction or a fresh change for the Paris Olympics?

Do choice of color and design really matter? Well, based on studies conducted, approximately 10 million distinct hues exist in the visible spectrum that human beings can distinguish. This means one chosen color has different moods and views. Recently, a fan posted a ‘bright’ color arena of gymnastics having contrasting thoughts. The anticipation for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is strong, with a 9-day countdown. However, a fresh debate has surfaced, dividing spectators. The gymnastics arena’s colorful styling has triggered a contentious discussion on X.

The Bercy Arena, noticeable for its pyramidal appearance, has transformed into a vibrant show. Some people praise the daring look, but others are not at all taken in. The posted picture of a full Bercy Arena is decorated in blue and teal colors. All the gymnastics apparatuses are in place, and excited onlookers remain scattered around.

User “ale” expressed this frustration in a tweet. Constructed in 1984, the Bercy Arena has hosted numerous high-profile events. The European Women’s Handball Championship, the Rolex Paris Masters, and performances by well-known artists like Daft Punk and Madonna have all occurred there. The arena had upgrades in 2014 and 2015 to modernize it to meet Olympic requirements.

Because of its versatile design, Bercy Arena is a legendary location for French culture and continues to host important sporting and cultural events. Two points will host gymnastics competitions in Paris. The Porte de la Chapelle Arena will host the rhythmic gymnastics competition and the Bercy Arena holds artistic gymnastics and trampoline competitions. However, the new color palette has spurred discussion about which should come first: innovation or tradition. Even with the vibrant ambiance, opinions on the arena’s design are divided following the tweet.

The ‘blue’ views considering the arena for the Paris Olympics

There were also complaints that the hue did not match the athletes’ clothing: “Gosh. Is this for real? Won’t it clash with almost everyone’s leotards?” questioned a fan. People have strong feelings about both sides of the decision to build the gymnastics arena during the Paris Olympics. An absurd comment from a fan highlighted a major issue: “the width of that beam 😭😭💀.”

This response probably indicates concern over the design’s potential risks of visibility and safety. Someone else expressed relief from the arrangement by saying, “At least the floor is in the middle,” implying that, even with the concerns, certain aspects remain typical and dependable.

One area of disagreement in particular has been the color palette. “I like this color although not sure if it’s giving Paris if that makes sense lol,” said one fan, expressing a conflicted sentiment. “Also I’m kind of nervous about beam with the color of the mat being similar to the beam… “ This raises the worry that gymnasts could be put in danger if there isn’t a noticeable enough difference between the beam and the mat.

The vaults and the runway’s designs were also confused, with some asking, “WHY IS THE VAULT BLUE and the springboard camouflaged into the runway?!” Athletes may find it more difficult to operate the apparatus if various parts are colored similarly. Beyond the venue layout, the Paris 2024 Olympics wants to redefine sustainability. In comparison to past Summer Games, the organizing committee has promised to cut the event’s carbon footprint in half. This is no minor effort, with 800 events, 15,000 participants, and 45,000 volunteers.

The Athlete’s Village will provide twice as many plant-based meals with geothermal and solar power. As the World Economic Forum said in its Global Risks Report, sustainability is an important factor mirrored in this green endeavor. Views regarding the general aesthetic were divided. As one admirer put it, “I respectfully disagree. The arena is beautiful, it gives ocean vibes” while another admitted to being hesitant at first but eventually gave her approval: “Takes some getting used to but I kinda love it!”

Interestingly, one strategy to reduce the ecological impact is to host 95% of the events in temporary or existing venues. Many games will be held at the Stade de France, originally constructed for the 1998 World Cup. The Aquatics Center in Saint-Denis is the only recently built building that uses solar energy and environmentally friendly supplies.

Finally, some fans strongly preferred unique designs, saying things like, “Hate it…. Should’ve went with purple like track.” This implies that some fans believe a different hue would have made a more striking contrast or better captured the essence of the games. Thus, the greater effect of the Games takes center stage as the design controversy around the arena rages on.

The Olympics in Paris are expected to be an innovative display that combines history with a forward-thinking mindset. Though it remains to be seen if the light arena will win over every fan, the dedication to a greener future is already a win.
