Philippines’ Carlos Yulo was catapulted to the limelight during the Paris Olympics for more reason than one. He won two gold medals bringing laurels to his nation, but his historic success was marred by personal issues. Yulo alleged that his mother had mismanaged his finances and accused her of stealing money from him. The gymnast also said that his mother had issues with his girlfriend Chloe San Jose, which led to a rift in the first place.
According to Yulo, his mother Angelica Yulo disapproved of San Jose due to how she “acts and dresses” and said San Jose would use Yulo for his money. Defending his girlfriend, Yulo refuted these claims saying that his girlfriend makes her own money and even supports him financially. But there could be trouble for San Jose if a Phillippines lawyer is to be believed.
San Jose was born in the Philippines but raised in Australia and has been living with Yulo in Manila. She is a TikTok influencer with more than 1.1 million followers on TikTok and 136,000 on Instagram and also has a YouTube channel boasting over 476,000 subscribers. However, according to Filipino lawyer Wilfredo Garrido, her earnings might be illegal and even called for her deportation.

Taking to his Facebook, Garrido posted a long statement beginning with, “IT’S TIME TO DEPORT CHLOE SAN JOSE.” He then added, “If she is indeed an Australian citizen, as she claims to be with an upturned nose, then she is here on a tourist visa. That means she can’t work. Which is exactly what she is doing, claiming that she is not depending on Caloy because she is earning money in her own right parading her assets on Tiktok in various states of undress. Those are taxable income.”
Her presence on social media features her modeling in various attire, including bikinis, lingerie, and dresses. She is likely making money for these promotions, which according to Garrido, she cannot do if she is in the Philippines on a tourist visa. Garrido explained that Chloe, being an Australian citizen, could be here on just a tourist visa. If that’s the case, the 22-year-old shouldn’t be working or racking up those endorsement deals in the country.
The Olympian’s girlfriend, Chloe San Jose, has been staying in the Philippines with her boyfriend and has appeared in several interviews and talk shows alongside Yulo. But Garrido even pointed out her appearances on shows like ASAP, saying they might be violating Philippine immigration laws.

He added, “She has appeared on ASAP at least twice, one blamed for Typhoon Carina. She must have earned talent fees therefrom….She has been modeling various kinds of outfits and unmentionables. Without a working visa she cannot engage in these money-making activities.”
Garrido also addressed San Jose’s rift with Yulo’s mother writing, “Moreover, she has engaged in public behavior that offends the feelings of the Filipino people, particularly her treatment of Caloy’s mother.” Garrido isn’t the first or only individual to raise questions against the 22-year-old. Issues regarding San Jose’s presence in Yulo’s personal life cropped up during the gymnast’s very public tiff with his mother, Angelica Yulo.
The 22-year-old social media star was accused by Yulo’s mother of using his son for financial favors, a claim the double gold medal-winning gymnast denied. In a TikTok video he said, “Chloe has her own income. Everything you see her using and all her travels come from her hard work. There have been instances where Chloe had to support me financially.”
San Jose appeared during that video, and soon news of Angelica Yulo’s disapproval of the 22-year-old went viral. Since then, the influencer has come under fire several times. She has faced allegations of disrespectful behavior towards Yulo’s family, hogging his spotlight, and now a lawmaker questioning the legality of her stay in the Philippines. However, the Olympian’s girlfriend may not have much to worry about.
Chloe San Jose’s mother came to her daughter’s defense
After watching her daughter get bombarded with allegations online, the 22-year-old’s daughter released a legal statement last month. Maria Fe San Jose went to attorney James Mark Padrones Ciudadano to prepare a statement in defense of her daughter. The statement explicitly mentioned the citizenship-related issues surrounding Carlos Yulo’s girlfriend.
“Chloe was born in the Philippines on March 21, 2002, and moved to Australia with my client in 2013. They both acquired Australian citizenship in February 2020,” Ciudadano told Balita in September. The lawyer also claimed that the influencer is not an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) since she was born in the country and moved to Australia later.

Ciudadano also explained that Maria Fe San Jose had remained silent initially, but the “misinformation” left her “deeply” distressed. While Chloe San Jose and her mother have also had friction, she couldn’t stand by without defending her daughter in the face of relentless allegations. However, this statement didn’t seem to deter Wilfredo Garrido.

Meanwhile, Carlos Yulo and Chloe San Jose themselves have avoided even acknowledging such allegations in public. So only time will tell if things take a more serious turn or the allegations gradually fade.
