The Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships are shaping up to be an injury fest that no one had foreseen. With the Olympic Team Trials scheduled for later this month, things are already looking grim for many of the country’s top gymnastics stars. Only hours after Shilese Jones announced her decision to pull out of the tournament, Fort Worth has claimed its next victim.

With the Olympics just over 50 days away, things are getting more intense with every passing day. With that in mind, injuries at this point are not welcome news by any means. And yet, it seems like another of the country’s best gymnasts might have to cut short the race to Paris.

A recent post on X by Gymnastics Now has revealed that Flordia Gators standout and three-time NCAA gold medalist Trinity Thomas is likely out of the tournament owing to an injury incurred during her floor routine. “Trinity Thomas put hands down on her opening full-twisting double layout and then couldn’t get the double layout to her feet at the end of her routine,” read the caption of the post, undoubtedly making the situation a hard pill to swallow.

However, the good news is that things might not be entirely devastating for the 2018 PanAm Championships gold medalist. While Thomas couldn’t finish her routine, she managed to walk off the floor by herself, which is at least somewhat assuring that her injury might not be too serious. However, fans have their doubts.

The gymnastics brethren let out a collective gasp

Justifiably, fans have come together to clamor about how this year’s Nationals are quickly becoming a nightmare. After Gabby Douglas’s hopes for Paris had been buried two days ago, Shilese Jones didn’t contribute to a better situation either. And now, as another potential national team member succumbs to injuries, one fan seems to find it difficult to comprehend the point of hosting the tournament. “Just cancel the whole event now,” commented a livid fan.

While the Olympics is the best tournament in the sport of gymnastics for obvious reasons, the USA’s collegiate scene isn’t too kiddish either. During her time with the Gators, Thomas had been one of the main driving forces behind Florida’s success. Reminding others how good she was during that period, another user commented, “It breaks my heart to see Trinity Thomas struggling like this.” reads a comment, as they hoped that the issue wasn’t more than a minor nerve injury.

The 2024 US Classic All-Around 2nd-place finisher Myli Lew also had to give in to her own injury and opt out of the ongoing Xfinity US Gymnastics Championships, which came to light last month. With a long list of stars having to take the injury highway out of the competition, one fan seems to have hit an emotional rock bottom that others can relate to as well. “I’m going to lay at the bottom of my p00l for a while“, wrote Lisa in her own post, as Trinity’s incident feels like the last straw.

Only hours ago, CaMarah Williams, a Florida gymnast who drew the attention of even Simone Biles, was also revealed as another athlete whose vault routine didn’t pan out as planned and might be looking at some serious leg injury herself. Echoing the sentiments of fans who were seen wailing in the comment section of the post that dropped Williams’ news, LJ commented, “That was tough to watch” feeling concerned about Thomas. Notably, before the ongoing event, injury scare has plagued the 2024 Core Hydration Classic as well.

At Core Hydration, LSU’s Konnor McClain also suffered a brutal fall, which resulted in her being assisted off the arena in a wheelchair. While she did come back in crutches later to cheer her colleagues, her heartbreak wasn’t too difficult to notice. While one star already looks at an arduous road back to recovery, Kelly hopes another doesn’t have to face a similar fate, as she commented, “Nooooo please let her be ok“.
