Brody Malone is one of the most successful gymnasts after winning 10 NCAA gymnastics titles. Recently, he joined the Last Line podcast where he shared his childhood losses, problems faced in 2023, and a devastating knee injury that almost finished his career. On his road to recovery, he experienced many life changes that he talks about.

After representing the USA at the 2020 Olympics, he now aims to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024 and win a gold medal. Malone discusses his recovery timeline and shares advice for youngsters on how to prepare for the Olympics.

This was Brody Malone’s 2nd appearance on the Last in Line podcast. He says that the mental stress of entering the Olympic gym or arena is a whole different thing, a totally new level. Malone tells the host in podcast, “You can’t let it become this super big thing like oh this is the Olympics, it is the biggest competition I will ever compete in my life, even though it is.” This helps gymnasts stay calm and focus on the job at hand instead of panicking and crumbling under pressure.

According to Brody, competitors should not think this and feel that it is the same as any other competition they have been a part of. Malone said that when you feel like you have trained your entire life for this, you prioritize it too much and start tripping out, making it hard to settle down and perform. His ultimate advice to youngsters is to stop trying to be perfect and perform to the best of your own ability, your own technique. 

Brody Malone looks forward to the Paris 2024 Olympics

Tokyo Olympics was his first big tournament where he saw Russian, Japanese, Chinese, and other athletes that he had seen only on TV. Malone says that to beat these guys, you have to stop trying to copy them, and believe in your talents. The 24-year old Brody Malone has had a really successful career so far as he won the 2021 and 2022 US National All-Around Championship.

He also won a bronze medal at the 2021, and a gold medal at the 2022 World Championships on the horizontal bar. It does not end here as Brody is also a 10-time NCAA National Champion, representing the Stanford Cardinals, in both the team as well as individual categories. It will be exciting to see how he recovers and does on his quest to bring home an Olympic gold medal.
