Jones has beaten all odds in the past one and a half years, having almost given up on competitive gymnastics following the Olympic trials two years ago. She has competed in six all-around events and has impressively never placed lower than second. These contests include two U.S. Championships, two U.S. selection meetings for world teams, and last year’s Worlds.

Despite facing hardships like healing from a torn labrum in her shoulder and dealing with an injured ankle, Jones never departs. “I’m a fighter,” she said and stated, “No matter who comes back, my goals are still the same,” on Simone Biles‘s gymnastics return. Notably, in spite of the comeback of the sports legend, Jones took second place at both the nationals and the selection meet last year. Her drive was much more deep than just the love for gymnastics.

The dedicated daughter

A while back, Jones told E! News, “It wouldn’t just be for me and my team, but also for my dad.” Sylvester Jones Jr., Shilese’s father, passed away in 2021 following a long fight with kidney disease.
