A gold medal at the Olympic Games is often the ultimate quest for most athletes. Well, Suni Lee isn’t like most athletes. The Auburn Tigers gymnast boasts two Olympic gold medals in her resume, but she’s not done yet. While the 21-year-old student-athlete still has a long career ahead of her, it looks like she’s up for exploring other avenues to give her fans things to be thrilled about as well.
In a video on TikTok on August 25, Lee posted a video of herself hanging out with her friends at the Minnesota State Fair. Captioned “mn state fair vlog,” the 2-minute clip shows Suni having a blast with her buddies as they hit up several food and beverage stalls at the fair and expressed their delight at the taste of the items. The group also gets a couple of cops to share food with them and none of them could hold back on their smiles on camera.

From cheese sticks to pickle pizzas, Lee hovered around the ground, enjoying everything the fair had to offer. Considering how the 2022 NCAA gold medalist has made it clear that her journey on YouTube is imminent, could the Minnesota Fair be her introductory vlog on the streaming platform? Earlier today, the Reddit group r/Gymnastics was livid after learning that Lee might be stepping into the world of vlogging to establish a more direct channel to communicate with her fans. And now, it looks like she might have the content for her first upload sorted as well.
However, while we speculate the chances of seeing Lee’s fairground experiences in her first YouTube upload, we should also note that the gymnast’s life itself can be a great source of vlogs, given the hurdles she had to jump over since the last Games in Tokyo three years ago.

At the 2021 Olympics, Lee stepped up to calm the nerves of the USA’s gymnastics fans when Simone Biles looked fragile in the finals. After a nerve-wracking tryst with the twisties, Biles decided to pull out just when Team USA was looking to trounce all its foes and bag another gold on the grandest stage. However, Lee filled her colleague’s shoes with grace and picked up the gold in the women’s individual All-Around. Suni had trained hard under the watchful eye of her coach Jess Graba and proved that she could be within one mistake of Simone Biles if Lee got the chance. Making most of the unexpected opportunity, Lee proved decisively that she isn’t an athlete to be overlooked in the shadow of Biles.

However, all the fervor came crashing down soon after. In 2023, Lee was diagnosed with an incurable kidney disease, prompting her to take the tough decision of cutting short on her promising NCAA career. Naturally, the star was devastated, but fortunately, her determination to bounce back remained unwavering. “There were so many times where I thought about quitting and just giving up because I was so sick,” Lee confessed to celebrity news reporter Hoda Kotb.
“This comeback was so much more than my return to elite gymnastics. It was me proving to myself that I can overcome hard things, and to hopefully inspire others to never let life’s setbacks stop you from going after your dreams,” Suni wrote on Instagram in 2023, underscoring why the uphill climb was something she had to do. And now, she’s an Olympic gold medalist, for the second time. Quite the titillating journey to the top, isn’t it? What do you want to see in the first episode of Lee’s YouTube debut?
