“I suck at this, I’m never gonna do it,” were Stephen Nedoroscik’s words about his dancing skills. Clearly, the third-highest combined scorer on Dancing With The Stars 2024 with a solid 43 on board in two episodes must have been wowed by his own abilities. Well, the audiences truly are! For he’s battling not two but three health issues, as another one springs to the forefront beyond his eye conditions.

As Stephen Nedoroscik spoke to Joe Vulpis on the Lightweights Podcast, he opened up on handling ‘Asthma’ as an elite gymnast. He opened up on the disease management part saying, “It’s one of those diseases that you can sort of exercise but it will always be present like so with gymnastics and the endurance that I’ve worked, my asthma symptoms are much lesser than they could be.” While he may not be able to reverse it, the gymnast sure has aced the trick to manage it.

However, it’s not without its share of challenges. The presence of a new housemate has troubled him lately, “But now I own a cat that I’m allergic to. And that does affect my asthma.” Stephen Nedoroscik confessed that he has been using his inhaler every day. “I try not to, but that is a problem that I deal with day to day life.”

Well, his furry pet is not the only reason that makes his asthma go for a toss. Stephen Nedoroscik, who had been only an ‘upper body kind of guy’ with his pommel horse skills, revealed that his Dancing With The Stars routines often leave him gasping for breath. He said, “And one thing I noticed with dance after taking a month off of the endurance training of gymnastics is that you know, dance is something that it, it takes, you know, it does affect my asthma.” It was clear that Clark Kent from Team USA faced difficulties while shaking his leg to the beat.

When asked by the host if he uses inhalers for his dance routines, Stephen Nedoroscik confirmed that he has had to use his inhaler in rehearsals before, because “Asthma is something that does hold you back.” However, he tries not to let that happen. But of course, only to the extent that is possible, without causing a health hazard. “Like obviously, if you’re wheezing, don’t push yourself too hard, but like exercise and try to push your barriers. Try try to sort of expand your horizons with the disease,” he advises.

Stephen Nedoroscik sure seems to have found a middle ground, while he juggles his irreversible health conditions. Sure, he is not one to be defined or restricted by these health limitations. Team USA’s supernova, Stephen Nedoroscik, already battles two eye conditions, coloboma and strabismus. And this is why he wears glasses, but right before his performances, both on the pommel horse or the dance floor, he removes his spectacles.

When asked by the hosts on DWTS, he agreed that he could not see. But it’s not possible for him to carry out his performances with them on. “I’m scared they’ll fly off, that’s the thing.” However, without his thick-trimmed glasses, his vision is not a hundred percent. Strabismus has caused his eyes to point in different directions, while the other is a rare condition in which the eye tissue in or around the eye is missing. But, he doesn’t let these define him. “Remember, you can do anything. Don’t ever let [coloboma] hold you back,” he advised a young kid who suffered from the same. What do you think of his might against these health scares? Let us know below!
