At the 2022 World Championships, when the US doyen of women lined up, one such gymnastics legend looked promising as ever. Not only did she anchor her team to the 6th World title in the finals, but also made her individual marks despite setbacks. Fast forward to 2023, her uneven bars routine contributed scores for team USA’s 7th Worlds victory. But she’s still on her way to the penultimate glory.
When the 18-year-old had just started her senior year, she secured a position in the Olympic Trials roster before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. But the Olympic Trials had her injured in the vault routines, therefore striking her out from the main event. But the ever resolute youngster is back at it again to reunite with her old friend, the vault. And it looks like this inexorable juggernaut is pushing into 2024 with full fervour trying her hand at a new apparatus.

Resorting to her Instagram story, the 18-year-old has posted a video of her strong suit. Capping off her story as “new things on vault, ” the Olympian graced the gym arena wearing a red leotard. From the setting, it looked like she hit it off with the vault at her beloved World Olympic Gymnastics Academy in Frisco. Right after her team gold win at the 2023 Worlds, Blakely had expressed contentment in her statements.
She had stated, “So surreal just knowing my dreams are coming true.” She reiterated her excitement notes, saying, “Just to turn around the next year and be a world champion and now a two-time world champion, I just didn’t think it would happen so quick”. The 2022 Pan-American Championships all-around silver medalist had torn a ligament on her elbow at the 2021 Olympic Trials. But she set her sight on Paris 2024 since the day she got a taste of success and it seems she won’t rest until it reaches fruition.

Blakely’s road to Paris
Paris being less than 220 days away, the 2023 gymnastic year has drawn its curtains. Among the various athletes who overcame injuries in their careers, Blakely stands as one such powerful spirit. But 2021 had been a tough year for her. In an interview from the following year, she had said, “I had a surgery last year and I feel like that motivated me and pushed me to be even better and to come back faster and stronger, so I think I totally proved that this year.”

But her following statements were proof that the Olympics were always revolving around her. Shedding light on following her sister Sloane Blakely, she had opened up, “It just took off from there you know, every year, I was just building more and more skills and you know, to be at this level was always my dream”. She’s appearing to achieve her deferred Olympic dream next year.
