For sports fans around the world, the 2024 Paris Olympics were undoubtedly the highlight of the year. And yet, West Coast hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg stole the show with his witty presence at the 33rd edition of the quadrennial tournament. Dubbed as the USA’s unofficial mascot to the Games, Snoop also received another honor when he got to carry the Olympic Torch. And now, it looks like another rapper Flavor Flav might be on his way to do the same.

During and after the Paris Games, Flav gained widespread cheers from fans for his support of the Team USA stars. But with Snoop Dogg making the City of Love his special stage for weeks, Flavor went under the radar. But things were brewing behind closed doors, and the 65-year-old music industry veteran looks to have bagged himself a special responsibility for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Flavor Flav lands major deal for LA28

In a post on Bluesky Social from November 26, Flav revealed big news about his role in the Olympics when it returns to the City of Angels four years from now. Captioned jocundly, “Word on the skeets,” the rapper makes his elation evident from the get-go. “In 2028, when the Olympics come to LA, your boy Flavor Flav is gonna be able to carry the Torch,” he announces, as the people he’s on call with go berserk at the information. As one of the others on the call notes how that’s a special honor indeed, Flav beams broadly to say, “That’s a bragging right!

It looks like the people Flavor was connected with during the call where he dropped the bomb were part of Bluesky’s workforce. Naturally, Flav also pointed out how his milestone is also a special moment for the newly launched social media platform, and they seem to agree. The rapper had a hard time containing his excitement and he was on Cloud 9 after sharing the update.

However, this wouldn’t be the first time that Flavor would be working in close quarters with Team USA’s Olympians and Paralympians. Instead, his involvement in lending a helping hand to some of the country’s top athletes in recent times already has made Flav a star to sports fans of the country, especially after Paris.

Flav’s unwavering support for athletes

For UCLA Bruins star and Simone Biles’ BFF Jordan Chiles, the Paris Olympics was a bumpy ride, to say the least. Just days after winning bronze in the women’s floor exercise, the 23-year-old gymnast had to return the hardware to adhere to a verdict by the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sports). Naturally, she was devastated, but supporters from all walks of life rallied behind Chiles. And it wasn’t long before Flavor Flav entered the field. Amidst the raging controversy, Flav sought to put a lid on things by gifting the Olympic medalist a special diamond-studded clock necklace.

Obviously, the gymnastics star’s family was stoked: “Means the world,” wrote Gina Chiles on social media. But that wasn’t the rapper’s only kind gesture for the USA’s Olympic athletes! Maggi Stephens, the USA’s women’s water polo team captain, also received financial aid from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee when the former made public pleas for help. Being lauded for helping the USA’s water polo teams, Flav humbly noted, “This is one of the biggest things that I feel that I could have ever done in life, outside of the other accomplishments that I’ve made to music… By sponsoring a water polo team and helping these girls out, this is bigger than me winning a Grammy.

T37 and T38 Paralympian Nick Mayhugh also wasn’t left empty-handed when he went online to secure funds to fulfill his Paris dream, and he couldn’t be happier about getting help from Flavor Flav. Who better to carry the Olympic torch than someone who vehemently supports and seeks to promote sports in every way possible?
