The year 2023 was a forgettable one for the 20-year-old US gymnast Suni Lee. Lee had a fabulous Tokyo Olympics, where she capitalized on the absence of Simone Biles and reigned supreme for America. She grabbed the overall gold but soon saw her kidney issue diagnosis crumple her World dreams. However, from the recent updates, it seems that Lee is all in for the preparations for the upcoming Winter Cup in Louisville, Kentucky.
The 20-year-old gymnastic phenom had to sideline herself for eight months owing to the couple of kidney diseases that came into foresight. Lee was spotted rehearsing her moves at the gymnasium and quite expectedly, looked a bit rusty.

In a recently uploaded video on Lee’s Instagram story, we could see the 20-year-old practicing her routine from a hanging bar. In the initial seconds, Lee looked to be in total control as she seemed at ease. However, just as the spotter praised Lee for her excellent moves, Lee failed to hold onto the bar and took an ugly fall.
It was quite unexpected as the spotter had just removed the safety mattress when Lee fell down. With the video ending right after the fall, there is no further update on how serious the injury was or even if there was an injury at all. Even though the glimpse from Lee’s training might look a bit concerning, the gymnast is confident about delivering her best at the Winter Cup.
In an earlier update, USA Gymnastics validated Lee’s return via an X update. Suni Lee will be joined by the overall winner of the London Olympics, Gabby Douglas, who announced her return last year in July. However, when Lee was forced to curtail her NCAA season in 2023, she had a series of negative thoughts gliding on her mind.

Lee stated that her sole focus was to get back to some match practice. The 20-year-old clarified that she was not aiming for a podium finish in the Winter Cup. Rather, Lee is cautious in her approach and is currently skipping the floor. Thus, the Winter Cup is more like a warm up for Lee, who will desperately want to reach her peak ahead of the coveted Paris Olympics 2024 in July.
