UCLA’s gymnastics team returned to the NCAA finals last April for the first time since 2019. UCLA Bruins sophomore standout, Jordan Chiles, played a major role in their comeback, leading with a second-place finish in the all-around competition. Soon after, Chiles momentarily halted her NCAA career to focus on the elite mats, showing her Olympic-level potential.

While almost always in the headlines for being a gymnastics underdog, Chiles’ loyalty to every greatness associated with her often goes unnoticed. Now in the run to represent Team USA at the Summer Olympics, the three-time World champion slammed an online troll picking on Bruins.

Gymnastics fans flocked to Chiles’s Instagram only to witness her UCLA meet-up teaser posted on November 9, 2023, accompanied by the caption, “Missing it a little!!!” Another gesture only appealed to her fans yesterday, on UCLA’s Senior Day meet, when Chiles fulfilled a longtime dream of working with head coach Janelle McDonald of UCLA.

And just today, she showed her loyalty to UCLA by responding to @leahsgymtwit’s post on X that read: “lsu this, florida that, when are we going to discuss the actual most overscored team, UCLA.” With a swift sarcastic remark, Chiles replied on X, “Yall are funny.” Just last April, the 22-year-old gymnast led the Bruins to a team score of 197.9125 during the NCAA championship in April, where she recorded a perfect 10.0 on uneven bars.

And in Fort Worth, Texas, No. 5 Utah defeated No. 4 UCLA four times that season. However, in the end, Utah topped with its impressive balance beam performances. Despite being away from Bruins where her heart belongs, Chiles continues to defend her own despite juggling elite pressure.

After making a triumphant comeback, Chiles told Olympics.com, “I think that’s something that I don’t think I would ever do [again], really push myself to that extreme… I will able to take, ‘Okay, I did it in ’21, it should be an easier way for ’24.’” Clearer with her vision, Chiles continues to keep her fans awaiting her performance this year after an injury kept her from the national team qualifier- 2024 Winter Cup.
