In the realm of gymnastics, Cécile Canqueteau-Landi, the 1996 Olympian who later became a coach, is highly regarded for having influenced the career of Simone Biles. With the entry of Aiko Sugihara, a Japanese gymnast who competed in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, the Biles family-owned World Champions Centre (WCC) in Spring, Texas, has transformed into a talent hotspot. A welcoming message was posted on Landi’s Instagram story captioned, “Welcome to (US Flag emoji) love having you here.”
Even at the young age of 24, Aiko Sugihara has made a lasting impression on the world of gymnastics. Following her debut in 2013, she went on to win four medals at the Asian Championships in 2015. She then represented Japan in the Summer Olympics in 2016, helping her team take fourth overall.
The open embrace of Aiko Sugihara by Simone Biles’ coach represents harmony in a sport that has always valued inclusivity and variety. “When I left France, they told me I was going to fail,” said Landi who switched to coaching at the French National Training Center between 2001 and 2004. Later on, the foreign former athlete became the WCC instructor producing many top talents. While Landi understands being an outsider, there is another discussion after the new ban on athletes in America.

The 10-person committee approved the move, which was made by Brian Carey and seconded by Kittia Carpenter, with unanimous votes; however, no justification for this stringent ruling has been provided.
