As the 2024 Paris Olympics approach the sports world in just six months, the excitement can hardly be contained. For the United States women’s national field hockey team, the upcoming games have been a long-standing dream ever since they missed their chance at the 2021 Tokyo Games.
The FIH Hockey Olympic Qualification Tournament in Ranchi to secure a spot at the Olympics in Paris recently saw an epic showdown in India. And now the prolonged Olympic drought for the United Eagles has come to an end as the American women have punched their ticket to Paris, ending the prolonged acute paucity.
The USA Field Hockey team ends the Olympic drought

According to an exciting Instagram post by Team USA, it is official. The United States women’s national field hockey team is “Back on the Olympic stage 🙌”. The fierce women secured their spot by winning a crucial match against Japan in the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualification Tournament held in India. The United Eagles earned the huge win and the ticket to Paris 2024 by defeating Japan 2-1 in the semi-finals. Ashley Hoffman and Abby Tamer scored the goals in the fourth quarter to secure the blazing victory. And that’s not all.

At the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualification, the Team USA women had a successful tournament, winning not one but all four of their matches against higher-ranked teams like India, New Zealand, and Japan. If they had lost to Japan, they would have had one more chance to qualify for the Olympics by playing a third-place game against either India or Germany. The tournament included teams from around the world, and the top three teams earned the right to compete in the Olympics.
Other teams on their way to the 2024 Paris Olympics
At the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualification in Ranchi, India, the formidable competitor for Team USA Women was Team Japan, who are ranked just above them in the world rankings. Other outstanding teams included Team India, which advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Italy 5-1 in their final pool game. Team Germany, from pool A, qualified for the semi-finals as well and showcased an excellent performance with a significant 10-0 victory over Czechia in their final pool game.

Teams like the Netherlands, Australia, Argentina, South Africa, and the People’s Republic of China have already secured quotas for Paris by winning their respective continental championships. As the host of the Paris 2024 Olympics, France automatically qualified for the Games as well. In total, 12 teams will compete in the Paris 2024 women’s field hockey games.

The United Eagles last competed in the Olympics in 2016, where they placed fifth. The final Olympic roster will consist of 16 players, along with up to three alternates, and now fans await these brilliant young women to represent their country on the global stage and soon bring home gold from Paris.
