Shaun White Has Retired, But Girlfriend Nina Dobrev Is Cheerleading For America’s Best Fencer At Paris Olympics 2024

It’s been over two years since Shaun White announced his retirement, but his girlfriend, Nina Dobrev, seems to be taking a pretty keen interest in the recent happenings of the US Olympic circuit ahead of Paris. Expressing her excitement, Nina Dobrev spoke about Miles Chamley Watson, who recently qualified for the Paris Olympics. The British-born American fencer has been a revelation as he emerged as one of the icons of the discipline. His success story started when he won the team gold at the Pan American Championships back in 2008.

Competing at the Worlds, Watson won a couple of golds at Budapest in 2013 and 2019, respectively. Miles Chamley Watson missed out narrowly in 2016, as he settled for a bronze. Now, after having secured his berth for Paris, Watson is all raring to go for gold this time. And, Nina Dobrev is surely one of his biggest cheerleaders.

It has just been hours since Watson was included in the final men’s fencing team of the US. Unable to contain her excitement, Nina Dobrev congratulated the Olympian for his accomplishment on social media. Taking to her Instagram story, Dobrev uploaded a picture of Watson, confirming his inclusion in the Olympics. She wrote, “LFG 🚀🚀🚀 @fencer” 

Actress Nina Dobrev is quite familiar with the sporting realm for reasons more than one. She has been dating the American skateboarder Shaun White for almost four years now. Although Dobrev’s Olympian boyfriend retired after winning 3 Olympic golds, Nina Dobrev also seems to be following other sports as well other than skateboarding.

She has also developed friendly terms with Miles Chamley Watson. The duo have often been spotted having a good time with a gang of friends. One such picture back in 2020, featuring the duo, also sparked speculations about Chamley making his television debut. Both Chamley and Dobrev were seen hanging out with the cast of the popular sitcom, ‘Riverdale’. Fans were quick to take the hint and begin their discussions. However, Watson also has some high-profile friends other than Nina Dobrev. Lewis Hamilton and Kobe Bryant are some of the noted personas who Watson has befriended.

Back in 2012, Watson qualified for the Olympics for the first time. Unfortunately, contrary to his expectations, Watson could not perform well and was knocked out early on in the tournament. Following his loss, Chamley Watson became utterly depressed and had difficulty concentrating on his game. It was at this moment that Watson came across valuable advice from the NBA great Kobe Bryant. Making him understand the importance of moving on, Bryant said, “The best athletes have the shortest memory.” 

Another legendary sportsman whom Watson greatly admires is Lewis Hamilton. The two initially crossed paths at the 2017 Met Gala. And ever since, the racer-fencer duo have been like brothers. Both Lewis and Watson have traveled to multiple countries together including, Namibia, Kenya, Japan, Australia, and more. Speaking on their friendship, Miles Chamley Watson had once said, “We love taking trips together. I think that’s what helps me in my sports life is keeping my mind free in the off-season.” With so many supporters, Watson is all set to show his magic in Paris.
