It’s the 21st century, indeed! Women are proving their mettle and truly redefining what women’s empowerment means. Seven months pregnant and still at the top of her game—that’s the very definition of Womanhood! And Nada Hafez, the soon-to-be mom who’s making waves, is a perfect example. On July 30, Nada, the Egyptian fencer, competed in her third Olympic Games at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

At 26, soon to turn 27, she won her opening match in the women’s individual fencing event, outdueling the USA’s Elizabeth Tartakovsky 15-13. She then took on South Korea’s Jeon Hayoung in the round of 16 but was edged out 15-7. But this didn’t knock her off her stride.

After the match, Nada Hafez made an emotional Instagram post, revealing that she competed while seven months pregnant. She shared two pictures, showing her in disbelief at her own performance and wondering if she could even compete effectively. Her caption read, “7 MONTHS PREGNANT OLYMPIAN!” In the post, she reflected, “What appears to you as two players on the podium, they were actually three! It was me, my competitor, & my yet-to-come to our world, little baby!”

Hafez further added the emotional challenges she faced, “The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life & sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it,” she said, expressing gratitude to her husband and family for their support. She added, “I’m writing this post to say that pride fills my being for securing my place in the round of 16!” Despite her heartfelt words, she faced a backlash after that!

A few comments that surfaced were harsh, with one saying, “Shame on her. Very irresponsible. A child’s life is much more important than any medal.” Another added, “Lord, show mercy to that child, because her mother won’t.” Yet another questioned, “Isn’t that a little dangerous with how far she is in the pregnancy?” This was just a snapshot of the criticism she faced, which was actually much tougher. But Nada Hafez silenced her critics with a single, powerful response on X.

According to a recent post on X by Front Office Sports, Nada stated, “Competing was to show what an Egyptian athlete, doctor, and most of all woman can do.” And she proved it. But her talent extends far beyond this moment.

Nada Hafez’s journey before the Paris Olympics reached new heights when she qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This achievement came on the heels of her earlier success, when she made waves by securing a spot in the Rio 2016 Olympics, showing that she was “going places.” Hafez’s ascent began in 2015, shortly after she joined the Egyptian National Senior Fencing Sabre Women’s Team in 2014.

That year, she clinched her first title at the Egyptian Senior Women’s Sabre National Republic Competition, laying the groundwork for her future victories. But Hafez’s achievements don’t stop there; she also holds a degree in medicine, works as a clinical pathologist, and is a national gymnastics champion. With so much talent and power packed into one individual, Nada Hafez proves she’s not just a jack of all trades but a master of many.
