Multiple prize-winner stallion Quel Homme de Hus has not been a part of competitive events for quite some time now. While returning home from the Longines Global Champions Tour in Prague last November, the stallion hurt his hamstring and suffered a setback. Its rider Jérôme Guery was worried about the horse’s health and took immediate steps.

Following his recovery that spanned nearly three months, there’s a light of hope for Quel Homme to make a comeback in the 2024 Paris Olympics. But the journey has not been easy!

Flashback to 2019, the pair won the gold medal in the Longines FEI European Championship in Rotterdam and bagged the bronze medal in Tokyo Olympics for Belgium. They projected an extraordinary feat at the FEI Nations Cup finals. But unfortunately, in November when coming back home from Prague, Homme had injured his hamstring while in the truck.

While Quel initially made his return in February, it was later discovered that he was still suffering. In fact, the lesion had worsened. This was when Guery asked for help from the veterinarians nearby. As he told Horse and Hound, “We decided to turn to the Equitom [Equine Clinic] team to find out what was wrong. Their best orthopaedic veterinarians, but also several human specialists, were mobilised on his case.” Eventually, the stallion had to undergo tests and surgeries for betterment.

Jérôme is well aware of the fact that Homme will need time to recover completely. However, their target of competing in the 2024 Paris Games still remains. Jérôme stated,

“Of course, his wellbeing and health are our priority, and we are doing everything we can to ensure that above all, Quel Homme returns to perfect physical comfort.

Thanking the people who helped Quel in his ordeal, Guery informed that the horse will only be able to breed via frozen semen this season. Though the beginning of February, the stallion had no guarantee of its comeback, he is in a better position now. Fans can’t wait for the stallion trot and dance past the obstacles in the forthcoming Olympics.
