In a recent episode of ‘The Horse Girls Podcast,’ hosted by Nana Sarfo and Lauren Vigneron, Jennifer Gates engaged in an enlightening conversation. When asked about her craziest international party experience, Jennifer Gates reflected on her college years, admitting she didn’t indulge in parties much due to her equestrian commitments, which kept her focused and grounded. However, during a gap year between her studies at Stanford and enrolling at Mountain Sinai, she trained in Europe under Harrie Smolders, an opportunity that not only enhanced her equestrian skills but also led to enjoyable moments.
Amidst the rigorous training, she cherished moments of revelry, particularly recalling what she termed as “wild nights” with her best friend Taylor, who was also immersed in European competitions. In her words,“ I kind of enjoyed the European champagne at the end of the day that was wonderful so we had a couple wild nights me and my best friends Taylor was she visiting from here where she was she was also competing in Europe”. One standout memory was their visit to the GCT of London, where they ventured into a vibrant and loud club, meeting other riders and experiencing a different side of the world. Gates found such escapades refreshing, offering a glimpse beyond her usual equestrian pursuits. Despite advice on nerves affecting her riding, she reflected on managing her performance, occasionally finding clarity with a bit less sleep.
