Owned by Chris Giles and Dave Staddon, Stay Away Fay wasn’t at his best in his last outing. This time, the Irish horse had another challenge in front of him. Although there were nervy moments, Stay Away Fay completed his chasing debut with a roar.

Stay Away Fay is a Southeast Bloodstock bread equine. The 6-year-old equine was bought for more than $305,000. The owners were impressed after the Irish horse defeated Grade 3 winner Monty’s Star by six lengths. Now, Stay Away Fay is proving his talent at the grand stage.

The 3m Novices’ Chase at Exeter marked the first chase of Stay Away Fay, and he emerged victorious. Stay Away Fay wasn’t in front during the most part of the race. In the dying seconds, Stay Away Fay raised his game. He rallied through the other horses after the last jump, finishing in front in his debut chase.
Although this was only his fifth appearance, Stay Away Fay looked like a veteran racehorse. He rode exceptionally well. Owing to his brilliance, he was cut to the general 10-1 (from 12s) and selected for the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase. While Stay Away Fay looks set for an illustrious career, trainer Paul Nicholas has his eyes set on the Haldon Gold Cup. Nicholas spoke highly of the horse and said that one can’t expect more than that on a debut. “You don’t want nothing more than that first time out.”, Nicholas said.

Speaking about the future of Stay Away Fay, he said, “He will run in the three miler at the Cheltenham Festival as he is too classy for the National Hunt Chase. He will run in that and you would like to think he will ultimately end up being a Cheltenham Gold Cup horse “. He added that the owners also shared the same dream.
