Four-year-old Cogburn is having a dreamy season as he posts his fourth win of this season at the Grade III Troy Stakes. The video of this race was shared by an equestrian channel named Normal Chaos. It showcases the horses warming up on the grassy turf of Saratoga and then being loaded into the gate. As soon as the gates open, horses rocket toward the finish. In the beginning, Nobals led the pack, followed by Caravel and Cogburn in fourth place. But during the turn, Cogburn minimizes the distance and comes in third place, and as the horses move towards the finish line, Cogburn takes the lead to finish in the numero uno position, leaving behind the likes of Nobals at second, Remuda at third, and Caravel at fourth.

This was Cogburn’s third straight victory, and with this win, he posted the major upset of the season as Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Caravel was the favorite. He started his career on dirt, ran the first eight races of his career on dirt only, and registered three wins. His trainer, Steven M. Asmussen, believed that he did not run at his full potential.

In a statement published in DRF, Asmussen said, “He wasn’t running as good as he trained on the dirt; he’d run solid, but not quite as special as he seemed training.” Cogburn transitioned to turf at Lone Star Park this season. And now securing this victory has further enhanced his accomplishments, elevating his statistics for the 2023 season.
