Saturday was a day to remember for Wadsworth, a three-year-old gelding who added another feather to his equestrian crown. He claimed the $200,000 KY Downs Preview Dueling Grounds Derby at Ellis Park. The video of this race was shared by TVG on their X handle (formerly Twitter). This video showcases Wadsworth’s nail-biting photo finish. Though he did not start off the race well and was placed 7th during the middle of the race, as he moved towards the finish line, he covered the distance in no time and snatched the win from the hands of the Highway Robber. Wadsworth was ridden by the French jockey Florent Geroux, who guided him skillfully and led the six-furlong marker, making a strong move around the far turn.

In spite of being challenged by other horses, Wadsworth held his nerve and clocked a solid 1:46.30 for 1 1/8 miles on a firm course. It was one of the closest finishes of the day, as Highway Robber had been dominating the race since the beginning. But Wadsworth made his way to the top and beat Highway Robber, a 14-1 shot, just by a few inches. Anglophile, trained by Brian Lynch, finished third behind Highway Robber, just missing out by a neck. With this win, Wadsworth has claimed the third win of 2023 in five starts, and his stats are looking amazing.
