Founded by Jan Tops, an Olympic gold medalist, the tour consists of 15 rounds of thrilling show jumping competitions held in various global locations. However, this year, along with horses, one other adorable guest took part in the event.
The best 30 riders in the FEI Jumping World Rankings participated. They displayed their exceptional talents. Notably, Charlotte Casiraghi, a member of the Monaco royal family, serves as the honorary president for the Jumping International de Monte-Carlo leg. Amidst all the excitement, this year’s show-jumping event brought an unexpected and delightful surprise.

Making a historic moment in the 2023 LGCT season in Doha, a surprising guest stole the spotlight and went viral on social media. On April 5, Myler Bits shared a captivating Facebook video showcasing a daring cat with lofty ambitions during the first day of the competition. This fearless feline made its appearance known during a two-phase 1.45m speed class at the renowned Longines Arena in Al Shaqab. As Olivier Philippaerts was about to start his round, the cat dashed onto the field, prompting a momentary halt to the countdown.
The Horse and Hound reported that the agile creature even showcased its show jumping skills by leaping over two fences, earning a round of applause from the astonished audience. One commentator, captured on the LGCT live stream, playfully remarked, “I hope it doesn’t bring him bad luck!” Philippaerts himself acknowledged the cat’s presence, pointing it out to ensure nobody missed the remarkable interruption. As arena crew members scrambled to catch the audacious feline, it left an indelible mark on the season opener. This equestrian competition sure offered the most thrilling event.
Global Champions Tour: Elite equestrians competing at their best

The Global Champions Tour is a premier equestrian event. The top 30 ranked riders are allowed to participate. If a top-ranked rider declines, the field is filled from the top 150 rankings. Wild Cards are given by GCT rights holders, local organizers, national coaches, and the FEI. Until 2016, GCT competitions had two rounds and a Jump-Off. Changes were made in 2017 when the Global Champions League was accepted by the FEI.

A Team competition now happens before the Grand Prix. The top 25 riders from the second round qualify for the Global Champions Tour individually. The competition has a single round and a Jump-Off. All riders start with zero points and can change horses. Overall standings are based on the rider’s placements in the Grand Prix competitions.
