It’s been less than a year since a stunning display of athleticism and showmanship was put up at the FEI Vaulting World Championships in Herning, Denmark. The equestrian who wowed the audience with her performance then was none other than French legend Manon Moutinho. En route to her championship title, Moutinho performed some delightful tricks atop her horse, and a resurfaced video on YouTube now allows everyone to have a second look at it.
A video that’s currently going viral by the FEI channel shows Moutinho performing several stunts on her horse while it’s in motion. This was from August 2022 when she took part in the World Female Individual Vaulting Championship. She eventually won the championship, ending a 19-year drought for France at the competition.

The YouTube video by FEI Channel stated, “Who remembers? Manon Moutinho’s ‘World Championship’ performance”, followed by two emojis with heart eyes. The small clip was a snippet from Moutinho’s full performance, where she was wearing white pants and a body-colored top and she stood on top of her horse.
The horse was constantly in motion, and Moutinho stood on her horse and performed the vault that earned her the required points. She got 9.296 points for her vault. She then continued her test performances sideways on the horse, as the delight of onlookers grew every second.

Her final vault had her doing a complete round in the air, before landing on the ground. She received everyone’s applause. Moutinho finally finished with a combined score of 8.963 which sealed her victory.
It was a huge personal as well as national milestone for France as well
After winning, she said, “I’m really happy for my country, it’s good to show that French girls can do it too”, as per an article by Horse Network. While it was a personal best, it was an even bigger deal for a Frenchwoman to do it. The last time anyone from France won the competition was in 2004 when Bruno Broucqsault and Dileme de Cephe won the FEI World Cup Final in Milan. Moutinho was ecstatic after her win, and she had her ride, a 15-year-old mare called Saitiri, to thank for as well.

Manon Moutinho also won the FEI World Cup Final in Leipzig, Germany last year, and among her biggest wins is also the World Championships win in Le Mans, France in 2016. In each competition, she achieved victory with her same horse Saitiri. Her victory at Herning, especially in the manner that she pulled it off, will forever be special for her and every French person. The world championships will return next year in Saudi Arabia, a first for the Middle East country.
