Brian Lynch is a well-known name in equestrian circles, as he has a multitude of accolades framed on his wall of fame. On the same note, the multiple graded stakes winner trainer has tasted the success again and added another stake win under his belt. Interestingly, this time, worth $51,691,542 trainer’s trained three-year-old horse won the $250,000 Ellis Park Derby.

It is always a thrilling feeling for a trainer when his horse wins a race and that to a stake. Brian over his long career has trained many world-class horses who have earned millions in their racing career. Tumbarumba has the potential to reach those heights after displaying a furious performance in the derby.

Tumbarumba wins the equestrian derby

Last month Tumbarumba raced at Ellis Park in seven-furlong Maxfield Overnight Stakes. But, he performed below par and secured a sixth place in the race. At the equestrian derby, the three-year-old gelding came with one sole aim of winning it. In the eight-horse race, Tumbarumba was ridden by Rafael Bejarano. The race started well with Olazabal, ridden by Alex Achard, taking the lead. Initially, Tumbarumba broke from the rail and moved to two-path, and placed itself in the fourth position.

Olazabal, after crossing the half-mile in 46.33 seconds, began to fall back from tiredness. In the front, Transect and Blue Light were involved in a duel for the lead. When the quarter-pole arrived, Tumbarumba moved to the four-path outside Transect and closed on the Loyal Company. With this, he began pacing steadily toward the lead. As the eighth pole arrived Tumbarumba, who pushed for the final wire and overcame the battling opponent, scoring a win by three-quarters of a length. Tumbarumba completed the one-mile distance race in 1:36.02.

The trainer Brian Lynch knew that he will perform after his other trained horse Oscar Eclipse with whom Tumbarumba trained had won his race which was held earlier. Ridden by an experienced jockey the three-year-old outperformed his rival on the day.

Tumbarumba thrills his equestrian jockey

The famed jockey Rafael Bejarano is one of the most experienced in the equestrian industry. Earning more than 250 million dollars in his career, he knows every aspect of the game. Speaking on his emphatic win, the jockey said, “I had a great opportunity to ride a really nice horse today“.

He further mentioned that the horse was well-trained, and he had a feeling that he will perform. Tumbarumba had a total of nine starts in his career in which he secured four wins and one second and third position each. This year he had won three races from his six starts and his total career earning stands at $254,870.

Tumbarumba’s win is a special one because this was his first stake win and it gave confidence to the famed trainer that his efforts with him are going in the right direction.
