One of the most eagerly anticipated events of the royal calendar, the Royal Windsor Horse Show began today at Windsor Castle. And it started off on a great note for the 3xOlympic gold medalist Charlotte Dujardin. Dujardin, an equestrian and dressage rider, was excited to be at the scenic Windsor Castle with her ride Pete. It was especially eventful since she was just two months fresh out of childbirth

The Royal Windsor Horse Show opened today for the first time without the presence of Her Majesty. But for the 37-year-old dressage rider, who was back on the International stage after some time, it meant no difference in giving her best. It was a grand day for her and her horse Imhotep, also known as Pete.

Charlotte Dujardin recently wrote on her Instagram, “So great to be back competing and for Pete to take a win today with 77.26%, against this beautiful Windsor backdrop”. Dujardin and Imhotep returned to the International stage with a world-class performance as they dominated the four-star grand prix.

Dujardin continued, “Today was even more special with Dean and Isabella looking on, as I competed for the first time since she arrived”. Her fiance Dean Golding and her infant daughter Isabella, born on 6th March 2023, were there to see her glory too. This made her comeback victory all the more special. Dujardin had also previously bagged her 20th career medal at the European Dressage Championships in 2021.

Her recent win in Windsor though was far more impressive for her personal conditions in her life. Her win at 77.26% was 2% more than the runner-up Gareth Hughes, who was riding Classic Briolinca. Emmie Faurie and Bellevue took the third position.

Her records speak volumes about her

On her recent victory, an ecstatic Dujardin told BBC Sport, “I haven’t done anything competition-wise for eight months and I have only been back on board for three weeks”. She also added that she wanted to maintain her fitness throughout, and had eyed the Windsor event for a long time ahead. She wishes to aim for the European Championships this year along with her horse Imhotep, who she believes is in fairly good form.

Charlotte Dujardin’s win here only adds another feather to her already decorated career. She holds the record alongside cyclist Dame Laura Kenny, for the most Olympic medals won by a British woman. She is also the first British woman to retain an individual Olympic title, which she did in Rio Olympics 2016 after winning the Individual Dressage with Valegro. However, as a mother, Dujardin’s victories might be sweeter now, with something to impart to her children.
