When it comes to luxurious properties, Highwood Lodge Farm Estate is as special as they come. Yes, the 103-acre large property is a state-of-the-art equestrian facility. However, that is not the only thing unique about it. The estate was once a privately-owned residential property, which was then converted into an equestrian wonderland by its owner, Andrew Reid, who is a horse trainer.

The property, currently on the market for a whopping $25 million dollars, has housed over 170 winners trained by Andrew Reid himself. An esteemed racehorse trainer, Reid has lived on the property since 1995, and has made several developments to the equestriasn facilities as well as the main residence in his nearly 20 years of ownership.

The perfect equestrian dreamland

Located about 9-10 miles from Central London, the Highwood Lodge Farm Estate in a rare gem. Being a renowned equestrian himself, Andrew Reid has left no stone unturned in ensuring the plot is equipped with anything and everything required to train horses. The property, which is being marketed by Savills, Residential & Country Agency, boasts 14 stables, a horse-walker, six furlong gallops, plus a polo field. There is an outdoor arena which confirms to Olympic-level specifications and can be utilized for dressage as well as show-jumping.

The estate also houses a cross-country course, which was designed by Captain Mark Phillips, an Olympic-level rider and the first husband of the Royal Princess Ann. At one point in time, the estate used to host horse trials and competitions, which were attended by crowds of tens of thousands. However, the cross-country course and the commercial training yard are only open for private use now, closed to the general public.

According to Robb Report, Andrew Reid, who himself planted over 6,000 tress on the compound, said, “I hope Savills find a purchaser who appreciates the opportunities Highwood Lodge Farm Estate offers and who will cherish and continue to improve the farm estate, as I have, throughout the years of my ownership.” In addition to the main house, the estate has 5 guest cottages and apartments. There is an indoor swimming pool and a tennis court available for entertainment and exercise. The property is certainly as unique as its owner.

The lawyer turned horse trainer

Andrew Reid has his hands in many pies, but one thing is for sure, horses are his passion. This is probably why he has been able to churn out 170 winners. Reid, who has been a High Court litigation lawyer all his life, has proven his worth in the equestrian community with his distinguished pedigree. Reid, who graduated from University College and is a son of an estate agent, once told the Guardian why he preferred the capital for training horses.

He said, “It is much warmer here and the horses appreciate it. The city conserves the heat. Going from my base to Kempton, for example, you lose five degrees and as a result my horses come better in their coats.” Despite having a full plate with his legal practice, Reid has always taken out time to follow his equestrian pursuits. His dedication has resulted in a property anyone would be clamoring to get their hands on.
