“This Is Wonderful”: Equestrian Community in Awe of Amherst’s Grinch Style ‘Field Training’

The Christmas season brought joy and glory. So has it to the equestrian community all over the world as Amherst’s Grinch tries his hands at horse riding. And Grinch didn’t just ride any random horse, he was honored with a reputed equine as well.

The festive season is made even more memorable by the presence of Grinch each year. While his equestrian skills were ‘interesting’, the fans were left awestruck watching this ‘wonderful’ moment.

Grinch tries his hands at horse riding

The UMass Amherst Police Department posted a hilarious video on Facebook following a Field Training day with Grinch. The Grinch was invited to try his hands at horse riding, but before that, he was given a theoretical class as well. “For today’s Field Training for the Grinch, we gave him a chance to try riding ‘Outlaw,’ one of our Mounted Unit horses. His equestrian skills are a bit… interesting”, the post read. He was bestowed with the pleasure of riding the esteemed Mounted Unit horse, Outlaw.

The police officer teaches the Grinch how to mount the horse, but given his first time, the Grinch fails miserably and falls backward on the first try only. However, the officer helps him by placing a stair-type stool to help him mount the horse. He gets on top of the horse but unfortunately faces the wrong side. Soon after, the Grinch can be seen riding the horse while sitting in a hilarious position garnering enthusiasm in the equestrian community.

Seeing this incredibly funny video, the horse racing enthusiasts were left laughing at Grinch’s equestrian skills. “This is wonderful and very funny thank you! Outlaw is apparently bombproof! The other horse looks like a draft is he a rescue,” wrote one fan while applauding Outlaw.

As the Grinch found it hard to get on top of the horse, a fan recommended lowering the footholds. “Perhaps lower the footholds so it would be easier for him to mount”, one user wrote. Another fan was highly impressed by the department’s Grinch video, hailing it as the best ever. “Best Grinch video ever. Outlaw is a superstar. Thank you for sharing and thank you for serving our wonderful country!” he wrote while also thanking the department for their services.

Given the funny side of things, an ardent equestrian enthusiast couldn’t agree more. “That was so funny (laughing emojis)”, he wrote. Amid Grinch’s nervous ride, Outlaw was incredibly patient. Highlighting the same, a fan wrote, “Outlaw deserves a medal”. Grinch, along with Outlaw, has surely brought smiles in the horse racing community.
