This tragic news left the entire equestrian world gutted, especially trainer Philip Hobbs. Thyme Hill was phenomenal ever since his debut, clinching multiple grade 1 victories over the years. It’s extremely depressing to see the four-legged friend leave the world so early.

Thyme Hill bids early goodbye to the horse racing community

Thyme Hill has been an exceptional performer over the years and notably stood as the leading equine for trainer Philip Hobbs in recent times. Unfortunately, in a tragic incident, the 9-year-old sustained a fatal injury during a routine run on Tuesday morning. Despite the seemingly ordinary nature of the exercise, the injury proved to be very serious, ultimately leading to Thyme Hill’s passing.

ITV Racing announced this disheartening news on Twitter/X, captioning the post, “RIP, Thyme Hill. Thanks for everything!”. Hobbs expressed his disbelief and sadness in a conversation with Racing Post. ?It’s really sad, he’s been brilliant for the yard for such a long time. He certainly would rank up there with some of our best horses over the years.?, he said.

Thyme Hill was crucial in Hobbs’ recent success. Acknowledging his contributions, Sandhill Stables owner expressed, ?I suppose the highlight would have to be his Grade 1 at Aintree. He’s been a bit unlucky at Cheltenham a few times but he’s been a great horse for us for so many years?. Thyme Hill?s tragic death is a huge loss for the horse racing community, as he was pitted to be Britain’s most exciting talent a few years ago.

The legendary career of Thyme Hill

Thyme Hill was owned by the England and Heywood families. The 9-year-old was deemed to be Britain’s most exciting talent after his phenomenal debut at the 2019 Champion Bumper. Finishing third in that race, Hill followed with a novice hurdle hat-trick next winter including a stellar victory at Challow.

Thyme Hill was the leading horse for Hobbs in the past few years, consistently competing at the top level. He secured three Grade 1 victories for Philip Hobbs, comprising the 2019 Challow Hurdle, the 2021 Aintree Hurdle, and the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase. Although he wasn’t able to come out victorious at the Cheltenham Festival, he definitely was Hobbs’ one of the best horses.
