The world of equestrian racing collided with the prehistoric era. Inflatable Tyrannosaurus rex costumes dashed down a live horse racing track in suburban Seattle. The 2023 T-Rex World Championships, born from an unconventional origin as a pest control company’s team-building event.

It has witnessed an exhilarating finish with three contenders reaching the finish line in unison. This event, initially established in 2017, has since become a symbol of unconventional athleticism, bringing together participants donning inflatable Tyrannosaurus rex costumes to sprint down the racetrack.

Equestrian races have long captured human fascination, showcasing the exquisite bond between rider and horse. From the pomp and elegance of traditional events to the daring and thrill of contemporary races, the world of horse racing has seen an evolution reflective of society’s changing tastes.

According to AP News, Ocean Kim from Hawaii seized the top spot in the 100-yard dash. Colton Winegar of Idaho and Seth Hirschi from Washington followed suit, securing second and third places respectively. It showcases that even amidst the playful chaos of inflatable T. rex costumes, genuine athleticism, and skill can shine through.

Along with this, Kim is a valued member of the Tri-Guard Pest Control team, which proudly fielded a robust contingent of more than 40 racers in this year’s event. According to insights from Emerald Downs, the origin of the T-Rex race can be traced back to 2017 when Tri-Guard orchestrated it as a team-building endeavor. The significance of this year’s races held a poignant note, as they were dedicated in loving memory of Terry Richards, the esteemed CEO of Tri-Guard. His untimely passing in a tragic small plane crash earlier in the year added a layer of emotional resonance to the event, marking a heartfelt tribute to his enduring legacy.

T-Rex Triumph in the Equestrian World

An estimated 2.5 billion T. rex dinosaurs once inhabited Earth, making their mark on history. Likewise, this event marks its place by infusing sports with humor, history, and an unconventional spirit. The T-Rex World Championships at Emerald Downs turned the notion of equestrian racing on its head. Also, it merges history, entertainment, and athleticism in an unexpected spectacle. Their mystique has endured through Hollywood portrayals, including the renowned “Jurassic Park” series.

With over more than 200 participants in the race, it is a sure short-winning race for enthusiasts. Accomplishments, failures, and triumphs have etched stories into the annals of equestrian history, and now, the T-Rex Championships add a chapter that combines athleticism with the lighthearted spectacle of inflatable T. rex participants.

One participant, among a total of ten racers, including the eventual champion Ocean Kim, sets off from the starting gates for the championship race held on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Emerald Downs in Auburn, during the T-Rex World Championship races.
