The sport of equestrian has witnessed many inspiring stories over its decades-long history. Be it the horses or the athletes, the sport is filled with tales of diligence that have been etched in the equestrian history books forever. The list of such stories is only expanding as the sport garners the enthusiasm of individuals from various cultures and traditions. Certain individuals have formed such strong bonds with horses that these magnificent creatures and the sport in general have become an integral part of their lives.
One such story is that of Caitlin Gooch, who is a cowgirl by profession. She started taking horseback riding lessons in her childhood and never looked back. Not only did she learn the nooks and crannies of horseback riding, but she started to give horseback riding lessons as well. If that was not enough, Gooch has achieved another feat as she takes one more giant step with her equestrian venture.

Young Gooch is widely regarded as the “Black Cowgirl,” and she has added another feather to her equestrian crown recently. She took to her Twitter (now X) on Wednesday to share that her coloring book, Black Equestrian, is being sold in NC’s book store for children. She captioned the post, “My Black Equestrian coloring book was sold in NC’s first black-owned children’s book store! I just realized a book about staceyabrams was on the shelf above.” She further wrote “History Maker” in the post, which implies how proud she is of her new achievement.

In the post that she shared, Gooch is also seen wearing a cowgirl hat, and her book is seen in the background. Her love for horses and equestrian sports dates back to her childhood days. Initially, Gooch wanted to be a veterinarian when she was growing up. After she completed her graduation, this young cowgirl started to work with the youngsters to spread awareness about horses and the sport. In a short span, she gained popularity and transitioned into a full-time horseback riding instructor.

Her equestrian pursuits did not stop there
After she was done giving riding lessons, Gooch founded Saddle Up and Read, a nonprofit organization. She started Saddle Up to help kids read and learn more about horses and the sport of equestrian. From there, she kept marching forward while raising awareness about building camaraderie with the horses and horsemanship. She was able to inspire many individuals along the way and is extremely happy with what she does. Her frequent trips to the library served as the inspiration behind her decision to create and launch a coloring book.
