Horses have been a great mode of transportation for a very long time. Although now the world has developed fast-paced vehicles that run supremely on wheels, the use of horses to move to and fro still exists. However, the combustion created by slow-paced buggies and speedy motor vehicles has often claimed the lives of these poor four-legged creatures.

On Monday, two Amish siblings were returning home from a get-together at 3 in the morning. They were traveling via State Highway 81 when a semi-truck rear-ended the siblings’ buggy. They were hit by a 39-year-old man from Oklahoma who was driving the semi-truck at Darlington, Wisconsin.
The crash resulted in the death of the woman on the buggy and the horse. Moreover, another 30-year-old man who was traveling with her was badly injured. He was later taken to a hospital. Nevertheless, the buggy was completely destroyed while the semi-truck was moderately damaged. However, its driver was safe and faced no injuries.
Learning about the tragic fate of the horse and the woman made the internet extremely sad. Many expressed their reactions on Facebook.

Focusing on the semi-truck crash, a user shared how he drove his car to make sure no mishaps happened, “ That’s so sad! I always slow down when approaching the Amish horse and buggy, always afraid that I might spook the horse, I notice so many people don’t slow down for them.” Another netizen speculated that the truck driver was not driving properly, “Was he on his phone? I see it all the time, heavy equipment driver on his phone swerving all over the road.”
Many mourned about the innocence of the horse and that the incident was unfair to the poor creature, “Supposedly it was 3 am. In the morning. My question is Why? Its bad enough at that time in a vehicle. Let alone a horse and buggy. Poor horse had no choice” and “I feel bad for the horses not he grown ups !” One of the users also prayed for the peace of the woman who lost her life, “May her soul rest in peace. Amen.”

Indeed, the accident signifies that the equestrian community and the government must come together to ensure the protection of the horses. Perhaps definite rules for buggy driving on busy roads would help in lessening such tragic incidents.
