Despite 2 decades of absence from the Olympics, Greek equestrian arenas have kept rising above challenges. Now, as we inch closer to the grand event in Paris, the majority of names qualified for the event are out and Greece is the most ecstatic right now. The country is set to be represented after 20 years in the Olympics, which is a matter of great.

Interestingly, the mother of the qualified show jumper is a former equestrian who was also the last Greek to participate in horse racing at the Olympics. As the World Championships draws to a close, the 2017 Greek Champion has guaranteed herself as a mainstay as she ambles along, and will bring well-deserved glory for her nation at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Greece’s 20-year wait concludes

Galloping towards greatness, Loli Mytilineou has guaranteed herself a place at the 2024 Paris Olympics after stellar performances during the Equestrian World Championships, which ended on 31st December 2023. The 27-year-old will represent Greece at the Olympics for the first time since 2004, the same year her mother, Hanna, participated as a back-rider. She was placed in Group C, which only had one of two places left.

Mytilineou was placed in Group C of the competition and secured the historic Olympic berth in the individual huddles. One of the most respected riders in the country, she will become the first Greek show jumper to participate in the Olympics. With this momentous achievement, Mytilineou also becomes the only eight athletes representing Greece in the mega event. While it’s truly a memorable moment for the nation, her rise in the equestrian arenas has been even more remarkable.

Loli Mytilineou’s rise to the zenith

Born in an equestrian family, Loli Mytilineou would have surely have inherited a dominant allele courtesy her mother. While the kids in those days used to ride horses, she was given a pony by her mother, whom she later named Maya. Thus started her show jumping sojourn, and here she is about to become an Olympic show jumper or even a champion, fingers crossed.

After attaining the age of 18, Mytilineou moved to Belgium in 2016 in an attempt to pursue equestrianism as a full-time career. Later, in 2017, she was crowned the Greek equestrian champion and then burst onto the international scene in the 2021 European Championships. The 2022 World Equestrian Games marked her first attempt at Olympic qualifications, and now Paris 2024 her first Olympic Games marks her piece de resistance.
