It was her grandfather David Rockefeller, who bought her a horse after she completed high school. He encouraged and enabled her to pursue her interest in being an equestrian. And by 35, Ariana Rockefeller has a variety of horses lined up for different equestrian events. For her, the welfare of the horses comes first. She chooses each horse per each event according to their feelings.
Five years ago, the great-great-granddaughter of American business tycoon John D Rockefeller, Ariana Rockefeller, spoke with Haute Living. She talked about how she got into equestrianism, her passion for fashion, and the various horses she has for different events. The rich heiress of the founder of Standard Oil carefully strategizes before every race.

Soon after she designed a handbag for the inaugural Longines Masters of New York show, Ariana Rockefeller sat down with Haute Living to have a discussion. This was right before three other major events in her life – The Masters, The Met Gala, and The Christie’s auction of her grandparents’ David and Peggy Rockefeller’s 2000 piece, a $500 million art collection.
When they asked her if she rode different horses for different events, Rockefeller said, “I do. My trainers and I have spent a lot of time strategizing which [horse] to ride”. Her choice depends a lot on the general well-being of the horses. She is extremely cautious about not pushing any of her beloved equines into a health risk. As reported by Equine Info Exchange, Rockefeller continued, “[Riosco], the one I had at the Masters, is kind of like my star quarterback at the moment.”
She had also bought a mare, but it was fairly new, and so was their relationship with each other. Rockefeller believes that it’s no different from being any teammate in a sport. One has to go through the learning period.
Rockefeller might never let go of showjumping and riding
Rockefeller’s love for her horses is not out of the blue. Even athlete Faye O’Hara, who suffers from a physical injury and loss of motor functions, takes on unique challenges for her love of horses. Ariana Rockefeller, though also loves fashion and designing equally, kept her passion for riding and showjumping alive. She credited her incredible team for maintaining this balance.
