Amadeo Perez entered two races this Sunday at the Hastings Racecourse and won both. With these two victories, the athlete became Canada’s top-ranking jockey. Although it did not first dawn on him that he had achieved such a significant milestone, Perez’s relentless drive to win has always been his main focus.

When he entered the match, Perez and Kazushi Kimura, Woodbine’s leading jockey, had the same number of wins. Both riders stood at 50 wins; however, after Sunday’s race, Perez pulled ahead with two additional victories. But if you look more closely, Perez’s achievements far outshine that of Kimura’s.

What must be noted is the fact Woodbine’s thoroughbred racing dates total 133 from April thru early December, while the Hastings meet consists of just 45 race days. Most people overlook that Woodbine has competed in 133 thoroughbred races between April and December. On the other hand, Perez’s Hastings has taken part in 45 races at that time.

Interestingly, Perez won the last two races in his 130th start, while Kimura’s 50 wins came after 218 starts. This highlights the remarkable consistency and success of Amadeo Perez, as he has managed to outshine his competitors in a significantly shorter period of time.

The top jockey was interviewed by BloodHorse, where he said, “My focus is always on winning and to keep working hard”. Amadeo Perez owes his success to his determination and his trainer. He will put more wins between himself and Kimura in the latter’s absence from the sport. Kimura has taken a leave of absence from riding because of a concussion received in the July 8 spill. The upcoming days are filled with anticipation as fans eagerly await Amadeo Perez’s next races.
