The news was reported by Paulick Report, on Friday, Tyler Baze made a triumphant return to racing with a victory at Santa Anita in Arcadia, California. The victory came after a hiatus of nearly half a year. In the fourth race of the event, Baze was partnered with the longshot Lonesome Stew, and the pair got off the mark with a $50,000 maiden claim over six furlongs on dirt. This was also Tyler Baze’s first victory since April 14 at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas. After winning the race, 40-year-old Baze stated, “I needed it; it took a lot for me to get to this point after being in the hospital and almost dying.”
He encountered discomfort while riding at Oaklawn Park; this prompted him to seek medical care at an urgent care facility in Hot Springs due to concerns about his health. According to Baze, the doctors did not find anything concerning about his condition, so he was initially prescribed some medications. It was when Baze went fishing with one of his friends, and after returning, he felt a severe pain that he said was indescribable, and as a result, he was shifted to a hospital nearby. What unfolded later took Baze’s world to the ground.

An incident that left everyone shocked
After he was admitted to the hospital, the jockey remained unconscious for five days and remained hospitalized for almost two weeks. Perhaps the most disheartening aspect of the situation was that the doctors had not yet determined the underlying cause of his condition. On May 1, Baze told the hospital authorities that he needed to see a doctor, and when he returned to his room after the CT scan, the doctors told him that he had to go through surgery immediately, otherwise the results could be fatal.

The issue was related to his intestines, and Baze likened his condition to colic in horses. However, rather than removing any part of it, the doctors untangled the issue. After this procedure, he remained in the hospital for 10 more days after returning to his home in Monrovia, near Santa Anita. He was also told that it would take at least 8-10 months for him to recover and get back to the equestrian pursuits. Nonetheless, the jockey remained composed, and through his unwavering dedication and resilience, he made a stylish return to the sport.
