Although he may not be the favorite, fans have an inkling that he might surprise everyone on the day of the finals.

There have been several instances in the past where a thoroughbred, despite not being the favorite, has gone on to win the whole event. That too by beating unbelievable odds. Will this year’s contender Rocket Can be able to do that? Well, certain fans on Instagram certainly believe so.

Rocket Can raise hope among fans to win the Kentucky Derby this Saturday

Rocket Can is a 3-year-old colt, the normal age for any candidate to enter the Kentucky Derby, and is owned by the Frank Fletcher Racing Operations. Bred in Kentucky by William Thoroughbreds, Rocket Can has been trained by William Mott, who will look to put up a stellar performance with him and win the event at Churchill Downs this Saturday.

The Kentucky Derby’s official Instagram account released a post that read, “Rocket Can puts in his final work before Saturday’s Kentucky Derby”. Attached alongside was a clip that showed Rocket Can running on a dusty racetrack with his blinkers on. But the speed with which he ran blew everyone’s minds away.

Predictions have been ongoing before the Kentucky Derby, and some have chosen the lesser-likely candidates to win. Like Jody Demling, who chose Two Phil’s to win above the tournament favorite, Forte. However, the way Rocket Can has now burst onto the scene, fans may have found a strong, new contender.

Fans believe the gray horse might surprise everyone

In the Instagram post by Kentucky Derby, fans couldn’t help but chime in with excitement about who they believe might be a strong contender for this year’s tournament. Here’s what some of them had to say.

“If there’s a grey running- you gotta bet on him!” Rocket Can is a gray colt who rallied from 5th position to win the Holy Bull Stakes this year. This fan has a reason to bet on him.

“Go Rocket Can!!! I’ll be watching!” writes an overtly excited and excited fan with a ton of expectations from him.

“Rocket is the one this year”. His performance was why fans were obsessing with Rocket Can now.

“What a beauty!!”, wrote a fan who simply admired the elegance and grace with which he ran.

“Got them blinkers on. Must be rowdy”, wrote someone who noticed an interesting addition. Horses wear blinkers in order for them to focus on the race and nothing else.

Whether Rocket Can can actually pull off the upset in this year’s Kentucky Derby remains to be seen until May 6th. But his trainer Bill Mott does have a tendency to pull off the unlikeliest of all victories. Four years ago, he pulled off the 2nd biggest upset in Kentucky Derby’s history with 65-1 odds.
